it was replaced for the old motor size. the guy said that he put a new engine in it and something about the timing needs done and the fan and plastic casing is the only thing that needs to be done to the car.it was replaced for the old motor size. the guy said that he put a new engine in it and something about the timing needs done and the fan and plastic casing is the only thing that needs to be done to the car.
you would need to tell us the engine size and was it a direct replacement for the old motor in size. I would think timing is controlled by the computer module on those vehicles.

We found that all of the northstar engines of this era will eventually overheat and blow the head gasket (which we had replaced). The only good solution is to replace the headbolts with a stud kit ($450) and torque with nuts (like the race cars do). This has solved the headgasket, but still heats up to 224 degrees in city driving (100 degree Kansas City). ALSO you must always use the A/C as the cooling fans do not operate if it is turn to econ mode. Our fix cost us $2400, but the dealer wants $1000 more.
generally when half the cluster fails it points a a failed instrument cluster, Not the ECU. Either way I would have it diagnosed properly before you replace anything.

what size motor is it. perhaps he means the timing belt might need replacement. if it is computer controlled timing will already be set.
