Hi Closet, I think the problem will be with the voltage regulator or a defective alternator. I believe it will be easier to fit a service exchange unit. That will mean removing the alternator from the vehicle. Remove the keys from the ignition. I believe its a good idea to make sketches all the way through the procedure, that way you'll know what goes where. Disconnect the battery and remove the negative. Loosen the alternator tensioner until the belt can be removed. Disconnect the electrical connections. Remove the through bolt under the alternator and then remove the top bolt. Remove the alternator from the bracket. Fitting is the reverse procedure. Make sure the belt is correctly tightened, and you should be away. Regards Johngee10

If the ignition switch is effected by the loose
key cylinder ,it may play a role

You need to check out the switch

what role the ign sw plays, with grounding
the alternator regulator,if it does

Put an AMP Meter in either battery cable
to check for excessive drain

1994 ranger 2.3L 5spd, w a/c. replaced fuel

Only way to check the timing belt is to remove cover, When was last time belt was replaced, timing belt should be replaced every 50,000 miles, shound like that would be next thing to check

1993 chevy suburban shuts of when i press the brakes or turn on lights. the weather has been below zero.

Your alternator needs to "load tested" for output. It sounds like it needs to be replaced because of a burnt diode inside. It could also be a loose belt letting it slip. You should also check the power level in the battery. It is probably low but should only need to be charged up. The colder it gets the less power a battery will put out. Hope this helps.
