Eqaully important would be a loose ground or something... hard to tell; Buts you will need either a test lamp or Digital Volt Meter for secondary help.

Do you have a test lamp, one can be purchased from most retail stores; A must if you are planning on doing electrical system checks.

John,
I see that Kelly has responded to your posting. I agree with everything Kelly wrote.
Do you want help troubleshooting this problem ?
Charlie

P.S. I'm not posting this as a solution -- posting a solution is the only way the system is allowing me to comment -- apparently a software bug.

Some other option that you may want to inspect would be the ground if all the fuses and power supply checks out to be ok, at this point maybe you best option would be to purchase a test lamp from a local parts supply store and start chasing you power supply and ground connection. You can have all the power supply in the world, but you still must end at a grounded location.. Grounds are equally important.

    John,

I explained that I was not posting a solution -- I would ask you not to rate it. I got E-Mail from you asking for help. I looked at your posting and saw Kelly had already responded. There was nothing I could add to that, except to ask if you wanted help doing the troubleshooting -- I got no response.

Charlie this is Kelly. I just looked at ratings on the original site.. You got a 4TU. No worries. The beta site for sure does not give us a clue as to how the thread / post was rated.

I suspcet that there is a Fuse link that has failed.
The fuse link I am referring to will control
1. Fog Lamps (If equipped)
2. Engine Compartment Lamp
3. Power Door Locks
4. Radio / Clock
5. Head Lamp Delay

If all of the above are not working then the Fuse Link "N" has failed. I can not tell you were it is located... I just know it is inside the electrical harness and it will take awile to locate it without the workshop manual. It is hard to even tell when some of these fail so we end up probing wires before and after the fuse link.

Here is something to keep in mind. Fuse links do not just fail out of the blue. The DOOR LOCK circuit alone is a 30 Amp circuit and it takes a MAJOR short some where to cause a fuse link to fail. DO NOT under any circumstances bypass or hard wire around the fuse link. You will probably burn the wiring in your car as it will heat up and start melting if there is a 50 amp short or greater. The key here is to find the short before replacing the fuse link.
I would locate the fuse link... then read the wire going to the fuse box for shorts and start pulling fuses one at a time until the short goes away. Then trouble shoot that circuit. Just make sure all lights are off when troubleshooting. This is NOT an easy fix... it will be time consuming.

Thanks for choosing FixYa,
Kelly

Thanks for your message Kelly. I was feeling kinda hung out there. When I was trying to comment back to John, I kept getting in a loop being prompted to register with FIXYA before I could submit a comment.

My headlights, horn, panel lights, electric door locks, and radio quit working, all at the same time.

  • JUST WENT THROUGHT THIS WITH MY DAUGHTERS CAR!! WOW WAS GONNA RIP EVERYTHING OUT , I CHECKED FUES!! ALL GOOD, SHE AHD NO HEADLIGHTS, TAIL LIGHTS, POWER LOCKS, RADIO OR BRAKE LIGHT OR HORN, SO I GOT TO THINKING THAT THIS JUST CANT BE A BAD GROUND, BUT DIDNT SEEM RIGHT. SO I GOT A BOOK TO LOOK AT THE WIRING, ACTUALLY I USED THE 1994 VERSION AND IN THAT THERE ARE 2 POSITIVE WIRES COMING FROM THE BATTERY, WELL ONE GOES TO STARTER AND FUSIABLE LINKS THE OTHER GOES TO THE FUSE BOX THAT SUPPLIES POWER TO ALL THAT WE NOT WORKING, WELL FOLLOW THE 2ND POWER LINE FROM THE BATTERY THAT GOES TO FUSE BOX, WELL AS YOU START TO FOLLOW IT THERE IS A PLUG THAT JOINS THE WIRE TO THE WIRE THAT GOES TO FUSE BOX, UNPLUG TURNS HEADLIGHTS ON ANT REPLUG BACK IN. IT WASNT MAKING A CONNECTION ANYMORE!!!

FRED THE REASON I SAID TURN THE LIGHTS ON THEN REPLUG IN , IS THAT YOU WILL SEE THE LIGHTS COME ON AND HEAR THE CHIME OF LEAVING THE LIGHTS ON WHEN YOU PLUG BACK IN. WHEN I LOOKED AT THE DIAGRAM IS WHEN I REALIZED THAT THAT 2ND WIRE SUPPLIED THE POWER TO THE FUSE BOX FUSES THAT IN TURN WOULD OPERATE EVERYTHING THAT WASNT WORKING. WHE YOU UNPLUG THAT PLUG, ITS ABOUT THE SIZE OF YOUR PALM, LOOK AT THE CONTACTS INSIDE AND MAKE SURE THEY ARE NOT CORODE. IF SO BUY SOME CLEANER AND APPLY. I HAD UNPLUGGED THIS PLUG ABOUT 6 MONTHS AGO WHEN REPLAVING THE BATTER AND HAD PUT THE GOOP STUFF IN THERE FOR THAT REASON. JUST THINK IF ALL THAT STUFF IS NOT WORKING AND YOUR FUSES ARE GOOD? YOU JUST AINT GETTING POWER TO THE FUSE BOX WHICH THEN THERE IS NO POWER TO EACH ITEM, HOPE THIS HELPS ANY QUESTIONS FEEL FREE, SINCE I SEE THIS IS AA BIG PROBLEM YET NO ONE ANSERED WITHA FIX

My cars radio does not turn on.

It's definitely a fuse. I would change out the radio fuse and the fuse that controls your door locks. Fuses don't have to be split to stop working.

Power door locks do not work unless the ignition switch is on, radio and dome lights also do not work.

look for another fuse box in or under dash. still sounds like you have a blown fuse. look in owners manual for all fuse box locations, including underhood electrial center. good luck.

Headlights, power door locks, rear windshield wiper and remote control does not work on 2002 Dodge Durango.

It sounds like a fuse. Check your manual to locate your fuse box, check to see what fuse goes to to the headlights, door locks etc, and check the fuses to see if they are burnt out.

2005 sebring convertible- horn goes off by itself for 30 seconds

FIrst off the horn's ground works through the steering wheel,so the wire is bare or the end is broken and grounding in a place where it should not. You will have to check the wires for the horn from the fuse box up to the wheel.
your power feed to the headlights and the door locks has an open ( the power is not connected somewhere ) Perform a wiggle test turn on the headlights and lift the hood, find the power distribution box and begin to wiggle the wire harness.Sometimes the chrysler fuse box under the hood get loose inside the power distribution box,it will have to be broken down all the way to the heavy wires comming out of hte box,you can tighten these connections your self.

Headlights and door locks not working

Fuse is probably blown out. Replace fuses for respective functions. Find the fuse box: might be in engine near battery or below steering wheel. open top and check for blown fuses. Try replacing if blown fuses are found. If all fuses are OK then it is very unlikely that all the bulbs are blown.
