NEVER attempt to add freon on the HIGH side...This is very dangerous and can result in injury and damge to the system! The correct set of AC manifold gauges are needed to monitor pressures and determine the overall condition of the system...Refrigerants should be added by trained refrigeration technicians.

Yes, that is true that gauges should be used to monitor system pressures to aide in diagnosing problems. However, you can use those same gauges to charge the system from the low side. Start with one can and monitor the centre vent for a good cold temp.. Look for around 35 psi on the low side when the system is operating and you have a comfortable temp in the cabin. This car will probably take 2 12 oz. cans.

Tried to add freon to my 2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse GTS and I was unsuccessful. Was told I needed a new expansion valve. Could there be something else causing it not to recharge?

Were you using just a charge hose or a set of gauges?
Using gauges you can see what the low side and high side pressures are. You will be able to tell if the pressure valve has opened in order for you to add freon.
With the A/C on the low side should read between 15 psi and 50 psi.. High side 100 psi-250 psi. Add freon to the low side port. If low side drops into a vacuum, you may have a plugged expansion valve .

Charging air conditioner

There is a lot to doing the job correctly, but sometimes with luck you can get acceptable results with minimum expense and effort. It all depends on how much Freon is left in the system.
The repair for a system with remaining Freon in it is a different repair job from a system that is empty. The Freon pressure keeps worse things from happening. You will find a fitting to add Freon on the accumulator(black oblong tank) or on a line close to that part. With the engine running and A/C engaged; you need to check the Freon pressure with a gauge.
If the A/C compressor is not kicking in, the connector on the low pressure switch needs to be disconnected and jumped with a looped wire. Add Freon if you have low pressure. Note the pressure because the low pressure switch has a rated working pressure and weak pressure switches can cut out early.
Fill the Freon to a moderate working level. You want the A/C to stay working longer which it will do when it is charged between the high and low pressure limits.
But if you find that there is zero pressure in the system, at a minimum you need to rent or borrow a Vacuum pump and evacuate the system. Then add Freon with a sealer and a small oil charge. Operate the system and drive 20 minutes minimum to circulate the sealant. Check pressure after 24 hours and top off the Freon charge.
If the leak did not seal, you will need professional help and tools to replace the leaking part. There are leak detectors, but some of the fittings require special tools to change.

Audi A8 a/c compressor wont engage i have voltage power to the system

You have applied 12 volts and a good ground to the compressor magnetic closing coil from the battery and it still won't close and engage conpressor? it that what you are saying? If so the magnetic closing coil is defective, you will need special tools to pull it off and replace it.

What's your problem?ac compresor seems like dont recive energy

There are 2 safety switches in most A/C systems. A high and low pressure sensor will cut off the Compressor clutch. You can borrow a gauge set, called Manifold gauges, from tool loaner programs at Autozone, Advance, or Oreilys autoparts.

There are several ways to try to fix this. It depends on what the pressure gauges show.

If the pressure is low, but not empty, there is hope. The old Freon leaked out. It will happen again. But there are products which can plug some leaks. Then add Freon using the gauges. The ideal amount is an amount that makes the compressor stay on the longest. There are gauges that can tell you, color coded, and reasonable priced.

If the system is completely empty, it is contaminated with outside air. The Freon will not function correctly if added and a new Dryer(A/C part) should be installed. There is a Vacuum pump which must be attached to draw down the system to a negative vacuum. So even changing a part will not decontaminate the system without the pump. Pump can be loaned from Autozone with big deposit which is returned, no hassle. Some parts require special pliers and "O" rings to reinstall.

The price of Freon has skyrocketed. What once costed $12 to refill a car now costs $50. So going to a repair shop can be a better idea if you waste Freon doing it yourself. If you don't repair the leak, imagine $50 evaporating into the wind with the Freon.

Air conditioner does not cool in 2000 Yukon. How do I check freon level and how to replace freon if need be

Get an r134a refrigerant add kit from Walmart or your local auto parts store.

You can even get a can of Arctic Freeze by Intermatics that has a hose and a gauge on it.

Connect the hose to the low side port. You can find this port on the 'thicker' piping that comes off of the compressor (versus the thinner piping that comes off the compressor which is the high pressure side).

Pressure should read 25 psi to 45 psi on the low pressure side when the compressor is running and the a/c is on.

Pressure should read 75 psi to 100 psi on a hot day when the car is off.

However, you'll want the a/c to be running when you add freon.

Press the button on the can to install more freon, if needed.

I just finished charging it it's at 100 psi low side tube gets cold right at fill point rest of system does not. Dryer is hot.

100 AT PSI ON THE LOW SIDE TOO MUCH REFRIGERANT.LOW SIDE NEED TO BE 28 PSI. HIGH SIDE SHOULD BE 200 PSI.YOU NEED A MANIFOLD GAUGE SET TO SEE YOUR LOW AND HIGH PRESSURE SIDE.YOU PUT TOO MUCH REFRIGERANT IN AC SYSTEM IT WILL EXPLODE CAUSE SERIOUS INJURY AND DAMAGE THE COMPRESSOR.

How can i add freon to my cars' air conditioner for a ford focus zx4 se?

Charging the System

  1. Lubricate the refrigerant system with the correct amount of clean PAG oil.
  2. Connect an R-134a A/C service center to the low-side and high-side service gauge port valves following the operating instructions provided by the equipment manufacturer.
  3. Set the refrigerant charge amount, and charge the refrigerant system following the instructions provided by the equipment manufacturer.

Where do you add freon to a 2003 Ford Taurus

Freon is no longer legal. AC work requries special tools, like pressure gauges and an understanding of how it works.

Refrigerant goes in the low pressure side, if you put it into the high pressure side, you risk personal injury.

Have a shop do this for you.

My air conditioning is blowing cool, not cold air

The "H" is the High Pressure side of the system. The gauge should be on the "L", or Low Pressure side. Here is an easier way to check for proper freon: Start the car, turn on the AC, and look down beside the radiator for a small circular glass "window", on a aluminum tube. This is where you can see the freon. If there are a lot of bubbles in the window, with the AC on, you need to add freon to the "L" side. Normal pressure on the "L" sied should be 28-32
