Can not get car to idle My car won't idle either. When I first start it, I have to keep a foot on the gas for up to 15 minutes. After that it is intermitten.... sometimes it idles and sometimes it doesn't. For example on the way to work today.... I started it, used my handy gas pedal stick to warm it up, after 15 min I removed the stick and it idles great. Sat for 5 min with a great idle. Backed out of the driveway, turned around and headed out. At the end of my 2 mile road at the stop sign, it died when I stopped using the gas. However 2 miles later when I turned at another intersection it idled fine! Same situation all the way to work. However, as soon as I pulled into my parking spot I pulled the e-brake, put it in neutral, and it idled great. It doesn't seem to matter if it is in gear or neutral, moving or not...... Am at a total loss. I have had the Intake manifold replaced, the gasket under the carberator, and am now wondering what to try next. Is there a possibility that is is a leak in one of the hoses? Thanks for any suggestions!!!!

If it is a caburetor vehicle setup carburetor, if it is electronic fueling , check module with a code reader.

Is this a caburetor, or injection model?

Check air filter, check eventually check and replace spark plugs, and if there is a fuel filter replace it.
Once you do this basic maintenance you need to set up speed screw and mixture screw on carburetor:

CARBURETOR SET UP AND LEAN BEST IDLE ADJUSTMENT
If it is an electronic injection model you will have to connect the electronic injection module (ECM) to a code reader, and you start troubleshooting from there.

Both jobs are not too difficult , but can give you further troubles if you have never done them.
In this case better going to a mechanic to have carburetor or electronic injection registration done.

Particularly, if the mechanic turns the mixture screw a bit more, the car will waste a bit more fuel but it will idle fine.

I would go with the fuel pump or the IAC (Idle Air Control Valve) Due to the fact that you have to keep the throttle on to keep the vehicle running that would be a sign of a faulty fuel pump or IAC. I would have the mechanic do a little more diagnostics before letting them cut lose on doing just one or the other.

sounds like there is a problem with the automatic choke / or choke unloader vacuum diaphram. Fast idle and curb idle might need adjustments
