I have 05 chevy equinox. Air conditioner works and blows cool when traveling down highway. In town it blows warmer air. Had freon checked. They emptied it out, refilled it, and checked for leaks. All was good there. This is 2nd summer with this problem. Any idea? 2nd question I have. The Equinox last time I drove ran fine other then AC prob. Today went to get it in. Turned key and it made ticking noise like battery was dead. Had battery tested showing 12.42 and its 2 yrs old. No problem there. Checked terminals all clean and tight. Took to Auto Zone. They tested battery- good, starter- good diod on altenator tested bad. Do you have to replace whole altenator or can diod just be replaced?

No you have to change for a exchange unit ,best unit to buy is a bosch replacement a touch dearer but they are the best and last a long time ,with a diode out running to earth the battery will discharge overnight .now for the AC well the problem here is the coolong fan -- should run as soon as AC is turned which is why its cold when moving as the air flow is passing through but when stopped the heat isnt being dissapated by the front rad so the AC builds up pressure and the safety switch is turning it off .

check the air vent of passenger side for any obstruction and secondly keep your thermostat full towards cold side make sure the ventilator is fully closed position and rotate the air selection knob clockwise and anti clock wise two three times than set it at the required position mainly your air selector seems to be malfunctioning there is nothing wrong with the ac

There is as blower motor resistor which is part of what makes your fan blow. So your fan isnt blowing but everything else works right? Thats what I would look @ first.

Hey Wb, You say you checked the pressure and its ok. Have you checked to see if the pressure is actually freon or just hot air..(this is from a personal experience with the same symptoms) Let some of the pressure off the system while it is running..(the low pressure valve) and if freon does not immediately come out.- Just hot air..let it bleed until freon comes out .. (mine was overcharged and I had to let out A LOT of air out of the system until freon started coming out).. try this and see if it helps.. ...mine is working fine..blowing cold air 24/7 after this .. with no other steps,,,

Air conditioner not blowing cold air

go to a parts store such as Advance Auto Parts or Auto Zone and buy the A/C recharging kit they have with the rubber line and connector that connects only on the side that you need to recharge your system. If you can put air in your tires you can out freon in your a/c system.

Air conditioner works but not blowing out the vents

Check the air directing servo motors under the glove box. they are 2 black boxes about 3"x3". you have to clean the contacts of grease with contact cleaner spray or alcohol.

If it is smell like rubber, that means maybe the electric wire too hot and some places short. be sure to check it.
