You put gear oil in a manual transmission, not automatic transmission fluid. Look in your owners manual for the proper weight, or ask the guys behind the counter at a parts store.

95 saturn sl gear shifting hesitates, what could this be?

Assuming it is an automatic transmission, I would look into that first. Check the fluid level. Low fluid level will cause hesitation. If your fluid level is ok consider changing the transmission fluid and transmission filter. Saturn's have an external filter, so it's very easy to do.

My 1996 saturn stars up but it wont take off once in gear

Well start by checking transmission fluid, condtion and fluid level, if empty, or burnt and black the transmission is bad, and sound like it is a transmission problem regardless if while in gear does not move.

WHERE IS THE TRANSMISSION OIL STICK LOCATED IN A SATURN 96 SL?

It is the next stick over to the right of the oil stick. It will be red in color. However, the transmission fluid can only be checked after the car has been driven for a while and the engine will need to remain running while checking it. The stick is usually hard to read, but if you have any carbon paper that isn't used these days, you can wipe that paper on the stick, while the stick is dry, and it will let you see the fluid level really easy.

How to Fix a Transmission Fluid Leak for a 1996 Saturn Sedan (sl)

Most of the leaks that occur on the transmission is at the lines coming from the radiator. Take some brake cleaner in a spray can, I like to use this rather than carb cleaner since it evaporate quick, but spray the area well and clean it off and drive it and now look for any new fluid around the area where the lines plug into the transmission. The one that show a sign, will need to be replaced. They can be taken out of the trany easily, by squeezing the plastic fitting and pulling the line out, but I like to make a plug out of a stick or something to plug the hole since fluid will run out of the trany once you do this.Tthe one in the radiator will be another problem. I would put some PB blaster some type of pentatrating oil on it and let it set for a couple of days and repeat this process a couple of times before attempting to remove the line.

Where's the transmission dipstick on a 2000 saturn sl

The Saturn L series automatic transmissions do not have a dipstick. They are the "new breed" of transmissions that are SUPPOSED to be trouble free. There is a plug on the passenger side of the transmission by the drive axle It is 11mm bolt. start the vehicle in park on a level surface or hoist...at operating temp pull out the plug Fluid should just trickle out of the plug hole If no fluid comes out add fluid to trans until it does...Where do you add??? Red plug on top/center of trans. Plastic plugthat threads in Add fluid there....Good luck

Manual transmission

It sure sounds like a clutch problem, You describe needing more RPM's which indcates a slipping clutch. If the shifter goes into each gear but the car doesn't move your clutch is gone or the linkage is stuck or inoperative. hope this helps, Chuck

1996 Saturn auto trans will not shift into 4th

Check your transmission fluid. If it is bright almost pinkish-red then it is not the transmission. If it is dark red or brown then you need to either get a flush done or replace your transmission depending on the severity.
