If nothing happens when you turn the ignition key to the "Start" position, it means that the starter motor doesn't turn over the engine. Most commonly this could be caused by a dead battery; read above How to check the battery
does the engine run? If it does you may have a loose / intermittent connection at the crankshaft sensor or cam sensor. Check the crankshaft position sensor. Make sure it isn't loose. Also check the camshaft position sensor.
Will it physically fit? yes. Will it be a direct replacement any everything hook right up and plug right in? If we are talking about an automatic then no. 1994's wiring was completely different than the 1997. Can it be made to work? possible, but I believe it would be more trouble trying to make it work than if the correct transmission were located and installed. If it is a cost issue where he has a good trans out of a 1994 he might see if a salvage yard will do some partial trading for the correct trans.
THE IGNITION SWITCH HAS TO BE IN THE START POSITION.INSERT 1/16 INCH ALLEN WRENCH PRESS THE LOCK CYLINDER RELEASE PIN AND ROTATE THE KEY TO THE RUN POSITION.AND PULL THE LOCK CYLINDER OUT.WHEN INSTALLING THE NEW CYLINDER ALIGN THE RETAINER SLOT IN THE HOUSING THEN PUSH THE CYLINDER IN UNTIL IT SNAPS IN POSITION.
first thing to do is after trying to start engine, remove a plug, see if its wet or dry. if dry, no fuel getting there, if wet, ignition problem, then we willl take it from there
