Question about 1993 Subaru Impreza

1 Answer

Wheel locking after accident/replacing passenger side tire.

I own a 93 Subaru Impreza. Recently I was driven off the road by an inconsiderate, to put it nicely, driver. When this happened, it blew out the front passenger tire. I recently replaced it but now I am having difficulty with the tires locking up, or the braking system locking the tires up. When this happens, there is a loud thudding noise, NOT grinding, but thudding but as soon as I pull off and stop, whatever is making the tire seize up releases and the car goes good for a few miles then does it all over again. Any ideas as to what this is and how to fix it? I'm hoping that it's not a costly project because, quite frankly, the dinosaur isn't worth it. I was told that it was most likely the ABS sensor and that, if I pulled the ABS fuse, I could operate the vehicle safely and it would cease to be a problem. Any truth to this? I was also told that it could be a bad wheel bearing. I'm lost. Help, please?

Ummm, checked what? I don't know what the heck you're saying..lol I'm a chick, not a mechanic. :oP I know someone who would be able to check that out for me, though. Thanks for the advice. I will have him check it and get back to you. Thanks so much.

Oh, btw, how would I check that, if he doens't know how to? What exactly would I have to do?

Your automatic hubs are locking I think, something must have been damaged by your friends little off road swore-ray. Have you checked them for proper operation?

I had similar problem with my '99 outback. Replaced the front half shafts and seemed much better. A few months later seemed to be comming back so replaced the driver side shaft again and the problem disappeared. I had put in rebuilt shafts and the driver side shaft was not rebuilt correctly.

Is your steering wheel locked maybe? Try moving the steering wheel from side to side (there should only be a couple of millimeters of play) while trying to turn the key.

This may just be sensors that need cleaning. Sensors are found on the wheel hubs. It may just need cleaning, including the terminals or they may be faulty.

I've just replaced the rotors and brake pads on both front tires and I felt the wheels feel whobbly. Anyone knows why? Thanks.

the wobble you referred to many be the front wheel bearings.
jack the front end of the astro up and wiggle the front tires.

if they wobble or there is a lot of movement check the front
wheel bearings on both sides. they are inexpensive.

Subaru impreza/ manual side window stuck

You are having a problem with the "window regulator" remove the door panel, see if the window regulator bolts fell out. they are usually in between the plastic door covering and the door or inside the door on the bottom. they are four bolts that a 10 mm wrench fit, they are short about 1/4 of an inch long, if they fell out you can simply put them back in (I recommend using lock tite on them) These bolts are located in the middle of the door a little towards the front. If your bolts are still in place you probably need a window regulator.
