Remove alternator from car 2002 ford focus

basically remove the wheel ( after placing the vehicle on jack stands). remove the bottom ball joint connection ( bolts or ball joint with a ball joint splitter) use 2 spring compressors and close up the spring mark one bolt in the engine bay at the top of the strut so you know where the unit goes on reassembly The bolts control the wheel alignment)undo the bolts and drop the unit out the bottom. undo the nut at the top and release the spring clamps. Lift the spring and top plate of the shaft. Undo the insert nut and remove out of the tube. Insert new insert and reverse the procedure. A workshop manual ( genuine or after market will have the procedure in full with photos)

you have to lift engine a bit to make clearance. take engine mounts loose or contact vw dealer and talk to one of there techs

The other option, but be warned could cause damage to the motor mounts, is to use a cherry picker to lift the engine up enough to clear the alternator from the engine bay.

two bolts at the top ,,,yes well the top right one you have to remove the stud ,their easy to do ,dont forget the bottom one as well

you have to un bolt the a/c compressor under neath it and move it a side with the a/c hose still on it and then it will come out! good luck

the rear drums on a focus are a pain to do,you have to remove the four bolts behind it and the drum will come off with a few taps of a hammer, the trouble is the bolts are hard to get to,you will need a 13mm socket and lots of extension bars. Be careful not to damage the brake pipes because they are very close to the bolts.good luck.

Are you ready I wasn't but I found out how and I did first vehicle in on a small ramp two 2x8 high because you'll have two drain your rad a bit now back on top vehicle in park disconnect battery cable , disconnect fan and horns , unbolt main support cross member between headlamps and remove, front hood lacht all have to be removed , remove upper rad hose from rad and thermastat housing so you can remove rad fans four bolts on each fan on drivers side one on top one on bottom two on side very difficult to get the one on bottom side , alternator tension pulley to release belt 14mm nut located center of the pulley has to be loosend off directly underneath the pulley is a 14mm bolt that will loosen or tighten the pulley loosen off the tension and remove the belt , undo bolts to alternator upper bracket has to be tacken off the cylinder head to give you more clearence bottom bolt and alternator have to angle out together replaceing alternator bottom bolt work the bolt partially in then place alternator in position when placing passenger side fan I found cutting a notch at the side bolt holes and setting bolts in acouple of threads then sliding the fan in place work quite well then tighten all the bolts was easier they charge three hours for this job it took me a little longer working in the rain

hi there rowdyrottie best way to do alternator on these is to remove drivers headlamp by removing torx screws once thats out of way make a note on how alt belt goes on,once you have done that remove both 13 or 15mm nuts on top partt of alternator next unbolt 15mm bolt at bottom of alternator once removed disconnect wires from alternator you should be able to remove alternator from bracket if you can't you'll have to remove long bolt going into a bracket with torx socket or a good pair of vice grips once bolt is removed alternator will come out this should be done in just a matter of fitting new alternator & build back up.

yes remove the mount bolt and drop the engine to remove the alternator

Just took one out last night. It also was stuck. Had to use small pry bar to get off the front mount. Sprayed the mount with PB blast to help. You do have to use some force, becareful not to break any electrical connections. Once the front mount was free, I had to pry up on it using a small hatchet. Only thing that would fit and actually be able to pry. The alternator became twisted from prying only on one side, so I used a block of wood and tapped it back straight. It finally released from the mounts and came loose. Then the fun begins in trying to actually get it out. Had to disconnect everything around it, took two people and alot of twisting and turning. Not looking forward to getting it back in. Removal took over 2 hours.
