Found on my jeep that the high quality vac line to the evap bottle had split on the under side.
SOURCE: 1998 Jeep Wrangler TJ Headlights working intermittently
I have a 97 TJ and the headlights wouldn't come on but the parking lights would. Funny thing was that if I pulled the brights to flash someone, the brights would work. I took out the old headlight switch ($26 at Checker) and they work again. When I pulled the switch there was one connector that seemed to be corroded. Hope this helps

Check under drivers door sill step. There is a spice I believe the wires are red or pink in color. The splice will be wrapped in black hockey tape looking stuff. Peel the the hockey tape stuff off and you will find that this splice is corroded and not making contact anymore. You can repair this splice and your problems will be fixed. Be sure to use some good heat shrink on your repair to prevent from happening again.

Yes. there is a Technical Service Bulletin out on this problem. You can find it here: http://project-jk.com/jeep-jk-tsb-recalls/tsb-squeal-like-sound-due-to-incorrect-pre-load-on-clutch-throw-out-bearing

check the vacuum line on the right side of the engine. There should be an elbow connector connecting the line to the engine. Does interior fan only come out of the defroster vents by chance?

Hi, can you tell us the trouble code?
Thanks for the quick reply--New at this--don't know how.
Do I need to hook it up to a computer or go to a place like autozone to get the error codes?
The indicator is not flashing and performance has decreased since the light came on. It surges forward upon stopping, which I've paid a mechanic to fix before. He's the one that said it's just the additives in the fuel build up on something and you can clean it out.
thanks
Malfunction light tells you there is a problem, but not where it is. You need to have the system scanned to find that out. (most larger parts stores do that free). The problem you have now may or not be related to the one you had last year. Compare what the scan code tells you to what your previous repair bill said. Then ask again so someone can help. Been doing this a long time and have no idea what you can clean with a toothpick!!!
