Engine Stalls when gear is put in neutral

Hello,

My 97 SL1 has been running good although lately when I am driving and put the gear in neutral the engine's idle goes all the way down to 0 and the engine dies. I replaced the Crank Sensor thinking it was it and no luck. Now I am thinking of replacing the Idle Air Control Valve.

Can you please tell me anything else that may be causing this ?

I had the same problem with my car and they told me it was and intake manifold Gasket

its possiable the computer has a bad quad driver, before throwing parts at it, take it to a shop and have it verified

2004 jeep liberty won't move when put in gear (like brakes are locked).crank it in neutral put in gear it will go till i touch brakes then won't move again.WHAT'S WRONG WITH THIS THING.

my jeep has 6speed manual box
and the clutch allows me to start car.
on Automatics trans must be in park or neutral to crank engine.

my 2nd guess. the engine stalls ?

IS THAT IT, stalls means engine RPM is 0
and right foot actions are dead.
and all dash lamps glow, telling you STALL is now.

I have a 97 pathfinder which runs in park and neutral but as soon as you put in gear it stalls, if i keep on the gas somewhat it will run for a while

On the transmission,there is a shift select switch on the shift shaft.This could be the problem unless there is an engine sensor malfunction.

Sounds like there is a problem with the Torque converter in the transmission or Transmission itself. When you put it in gear it should initially go into neutral but occasionally the transmission will stick part way in gear and partially in neutral putting a load on the motor. It is not enough of a load to get the vehicle moving but it is enough to stall the motor. This could be a simple clutch adjustment in the Automatic clutch to a PCV valve issue to a need to rebuild the whole transmission because of a problem with the control body or transmission pump itself. Sorry for the bad news.

My 1992 wrangler won't roll at all. It starts fine, and stays running but when I try to put it in gear it stalls out. Even in neutral, I can't seem to push it to get it rolling. Any suggestions?

This sounds bad, even in neutral it stalls, you cant even push it. i would start by putting the transfer case selector in neutral and see if it rolls, if this jeep is only two wheel drive then start by jack the front wheels up and do this for the four wheel drive also, this is to see if its in the trany or the wheel, check and see if you can spin the wheels in the front, if this is two wd then if the wheels dont spin then you have a problem with the brakes but what concerns me is that it stalls in neutral, i would have to say the problem is in the trany and if this is a stick shift trany i would say the clutch broke and will not release but when its in neutral it should roll. anyway do the same in the rear wheels, jack them up and see if the wheels move, if they dont then remove the driveshaft at the rearend and then see if the wheels move. if the wheels turn with shaft off then theres a problem with the trany oor transfer case if its 4wd, if its 2wheel drive then its something in the trany, if the wheels dont spin with shaft off then start truck and see if it still stalls but dont let it go into gear with driveshaft off you will not be able to stop driveshaft when disconnected, just see if it stalls in neutral. good luck.

97 subaru legacy outback 2.5 vibration only at idle in gear

I would suspect a mount. Either motor or trans. Also check lateral mount on top of motor to firewall. Good luck and have a great day.
