Found key taped to ignition box under the steering colum taped to the box i untaped the key now the jeep starts then stalls and a light on the control panel with a key inthe middle is blinking and it just stalls

have the ignition switch checked not where the key goes fords have a switch that is located on top of the steering colum under the dash when driving the van kinda giggle the key switch or even just sitting in the van in the driveway ford has had many problems with this switch on steering colum

look under the drivers foot well it is just a plug on fitting on the electrical part of the ignition switch .you cant plug a wire in .if you want to fit something you do that at a spare fuse section ,of the fuse box.

Its probably something in the harness going up the steering column to the key switch.

turns out that the after market remote car starter was not properly insulated.
from moving the tilt wheel up and down the shrink wrap on the added feature wore out and thru , rubbing up against the metal in casement which is under the interior colume panel below the steering wheel. i knew this was not a comon jeep thing, but some slacker installer at the car stereo shop, even the cloth wrap was not re attached. but just hanging loose..
electrical tape and zippy ties was the cure all..

I would check your brake light swich located under dash just fallow your brake pedle with a test light see if you have power going to it slitely press brake pedle see if other side of switch has power (key on car not running) if not try ajusting it by pulling on it or unscewing it if all checks out ok replace turn signal switch disconnect battery remove center part of steerring remove center bolt with steerring puller pull steering wheel with locking plate puller pull locking plate remove turn signal handle emergency button three scews holding turn signal under dash fallow steering colum disconect wires on right side (passenger side) tape a long wire to end of connector pull turn signal without pulling tape wire all the way out so you can tape it to new turn signal wire connector to be able to pull wires back down steerring colume (you might have to losen steerring colume and bracket two scews under dash four on steering colume)

First thing you need to do is determine if the problem is in the key lock or the switch. Switch is located above the steering column connected to the lock by a rod. Instructions for adjustment/install are usually in the box with the new switch. If key lock is bad, you need to disassemble the upper column under the steering wheel...Instructions can be found in either chiltons or haynes. (book is useful for many other things and a worthwhile investment at around $20.)

sounds like the key is either worn down to where the ridges in the key wont push the tumblers inside the key lock cylinder into their proper place to move the cylinder into the starting position. Or your steering colum is locked and the wheel is moving freely as if it were not. So your solution would be to either have an expert look at it (estimated cost: 200$ low/400$high) or you can attempt to fix it yourself.
should you choose the "I'll fix it myself" method....try getting a new key made at a hardware store since keys wearout over time (ie:10years of turning that old key), this may solve the problem right away if the ridges are just worn on the key. Or the hard way, you need to get a phillips screwdriver and some jewelers tools and an 8mm or 10mm wrench/rachet+socket to disconnect the battery, then underneath the steering colum just under the ignition is a hole in the colum shroud/cover, from there you can disconnect the ignition key lock cylinder (the thing you put your key into). once you've removed the cylinder from the steering colum you should test your key again to see if you can turn the cylinder outside of the colum if you cannot then buy a new ignition key lock cylinder for about 15$-30$...problems solved.

there is a rod that goes from your ignition switch down to a box in the steering colum. and when you turn the key it pushes the rod wich inturn conects the electrical circut and tells the starter to engage. you can fix this by takeing the compleat colum out of the car and rebuilding it but if you can finda colum in a junk yard it would be alot easier and faster to replace the whole colum n if you do finda a colum in a junk yard make sure they have the key for the ignition before you buy it from them

look for any fuseable links that might be starting to burn or are burnt around starter and battery. also could be starter switch under dash on steering colume. and chk. all ground straps.

It is your ignition switch, located under dash on top of your steering colume.
