2002 Trooper 97k that runs great for 10 miles and then it loses power and stalls out. It will turn over again after sitting for 5 minutes but suffers the same problem of losing power and stalling out but after a mile of travel. Is this a fuel pump problem? Thanks.

Yes sir mostly its a fuel pump regulator problem .
check the fuel pump pressure to make sure it is the pump regulator that controls the amount of pump pressure or change the whole pump would be better have a good day sir

    I forgot to ask, is this something I need to have a shop do or is it something that I can tackle with "average" mechanical skill?

    any average mechanic can replace the gasket but ,
    who it going to lath the head so the head becomes smooth and making good sealing for the gasket ? it needs a lathing machine if mechanic have one he will make it

Can you perform a spark test? I would like to know if it has spark when it stalls. Also, if you have a can of starter fluid, wait for it to stall and not want to restart, the quickly spray some starter fluid into the intake. If it runs on the starter fluid, you have a fuel issue. You might also want to make sure the engine coolant level is fine and you aren't overheating. If you coolant level is low you may not know it is overheating since the coolant sensor isn't in coolant. It won't read air.

My 02 deville stalls
It may be tough to diagnose if you can't duplicate the complaint.
When it stalls you would need to know if you are loosing spark to the plugs or fuel to the injectors to proceed with any troubleshooting.
Could be anything from a faulty relay to the coil to the fuel pump.

Hi!
Check your vacuum hoses for broken, cracked or loose connections. Attach a Fuel Pump Pressure Tester to the service port on the fuel injector rail and monitor fuel pump pressure specially when engine is losing power. If CHECK ENGINE light is on, perform a DTC scan. Autozone, Checkers or similar Auto Parts stores perform this service FREE of charge.

Sounds like its not getting enough air then overfeulling .

Check the air mass sensor and air meter. also check all the pipes from the air box for splits etc.

Suburban stalls while driving after running for 15-30 minutes. After letting it sit for 5-10 min it runs fine for another 5-10 minutes, then starts doing it all over again.
a bad crank sensor can cause this. shuts off while going down road, and will start about 10 min, later with no problems runs fine until it quits again. hope this helps,
