  • There is a 8mm or 10mm plug on the back of the transmission (underneath the car) When you pull that plug if fluid comes out then it it full. If not you add fluid until it just barely comes out that hole and then the transmission is full.
  • Now you add fluid from the top of the transmission. You have to look way down in the engine bay on top of the transmission for a red or black cap. It may say "do not open" or "open by a technician only." Take and pull that cap off and this is the fill spout for the transmission. It's a fill only, not a check. Add from this spout until it comes out that little plug on the back of the transmission.
  • You will hear people call this a "sealed" transmission of "non-serviceable." Now you can tell them rubbish lol.
  • To check the condition you can look to see if it is getting black or smells burnt. After 50,000 miles the fluid needs flushed and after 100,000 miles you need to change the filter and gasket for the transmission.

You can check oil level of your 2004 Chevrolet Malibu as described below.

If the engine is the 2.2L Ecotec 4 cylinder engine it uses a canister filter (Fram # PH9018 I believe) under a black cap that is located on top of the engine on the front driver side. If you have a plastic ecotec cover on the engine you will need to remove it by pulling on it to release the clips. You should then see the cap in the described location. Use a 1 1/4" wrench/ratchet to remove the cap. (pull off the cap off before you replace the oil plug otherwise you won't remove a lot of the oil). Pull the old filter off the cap and clip the new one on and replace the gasket on the cap. Put new oil on the gasket and screw the cap back into the engine. Then put the oil plug back in the engine. Then add oil.

check fluid level and condition of tranny oil if this is good then make sure the trans lever is moving at the transmission. if it is then the problem is in the trans itself and will have to be inspected.

Only way trans oil is leaking out of overflow is to much oil in the trans in first place. Did you add trans oil? check level when enine is operating temperature and engine idling in level ground. check 3 times to make it sure. If found overfull simply drain to proper level. If oil is in operating range than you may have trans problem that need professional care.

1996 Honda Accord EX Manual trans. Where is oil level plug. what kind of oil?

Hi there,

All Honda manual transaxles use the Honda Manual Transmission Fluid (MTF) as the original factory fill. This oil is similar to a 10W-30 or 10W-40 viscosity engine oil, and this oil can be substituted temporarily. However, the manufacturer recommends the use of their MTF when changing the fluid.

Level Check

The transaxle fluid should be changed every 90,000 miles (144,000 km) or 6 years under normal driving conditions. In severe driving conditions the fluid should be changed every 30,000 miles (48,000 km) or every 2 years, whichever occurs first.
Make sure the vehicle is on a level surface. If the vehicle is raised, make sure the vehicle is safely supported and level

NOTE: Do not confuse the drain plug with the fill plug.
The fill plug is in the mid section of the transaxle. The drain plug is near the bottom of the transaxle.
  1. The oil level is checked by removing the oil fill plug on the side of the transaxle. The transaxle fluid should just meet the lower threads of the transaxle fill hole.
  2. Remove the oil level check bolt from the side of the transaxle. If oil runs out, or if oil can be felt near the threaded fill hole opening, reinstall and retighten the bolt to 33 ft. lbs. (45 Nm).
  3. If the level needs to be topped off, pour oil in slowly until it begins to run out then, install and tighten the filler bolt to 33 ft. lbs. (45 Nm).

Warm the car engine.Change through all the gears and finish in N.Check the transmission oil level. If it needs trans oil,add the oil into the tube that the trans fluid dipstick is located. The gears wont work if the trans oil level is low.Probably a good idea to find the oil leak.I hope this helps

Check your trans fluid and inspect for leaks asap. If level is good and leaks are none to minimal, I would suggest a new trans cooler. Your current one could be clogged.

When i shift into Drive it does nt move right away 10 seconds pass bumps into gear drives great" Camry 1991

1st check fluid level in trans. If o/k then suggest a trans oil filter replacement. If the filter is clogged it will starve the trans oil pump. Another cause would be a faulty check valve inside the trans that stops oil from leaking out of the torque converter back into the pan. Check this by checking the oil level after overnight and see if the level is about 2-3 litres over. Nope this helps Moe
