The switch is worn out inside.Try a spare key if it does'nt work you will have to replace the switch.
The ignition switch is the electrical switch located under the dash, not to be confused with the ignition (key cylinder).

Add a CommentIt has the main wire harness leading to it and is held in with two nuts. There is an actuator rod leading down inside of the column that engages the switch. After time the spring inside gets worn and prevents the key from turning all the way. I would remove it (unhook the battery first so the vehicle doesn't start while removing it) and test it for resistance. Wile it is out see if the ignition cylinder turns properly.

Probably the ignition switch (not the key cylinder) on the lower portion of the column or the actuator rod leading to it.
where would that be?
nevermind my last comment
Were you able to locate the ignition switch. There's a plug that goes into it and two small (5/16) nuts that hold it down. The rod runs along the inside of the column.
