1982 Chrysler LeBaron Convertable

I don't understand how a headlight motor can keep a car from starting unless a short circuit has blown the fusible link to the ignition switch. Usually the headlight fuse would go first unless somebody tried bypassing the blown fuse with a wire (always a terrible idea).

Headlight motors are probably on the front of the radiator mounting panel, right next to each headlight.

Corrosion or a bad connection between alternator output and battery positive . A blown fuse or fusible link in that wiring .

It will be in the under hood fuse and relay center, check the owner's manual for exact position in box or check the lid for a diagram.

If the motor works when top up is used, then it's the relay. Relay located on left side near driver's foot.

inside the pump/? did the installer put fluid into the pump wen he installed it?

Could be a bad earth or ground the operating motor which is what i would check first then the supply connection multiplugs for burning inside the plugs connections

first thing id do is to ceck the fuse. i know the switch checked out but thats the simlist solution. if its good then there are 2 motors on either side of the convertable top at the bottom. they might be hard to find but they will be behind some panels. just follow the top down and find which panels to remove. id say your motors are bad. i know it sounds weird that both could go out at the same time but i used to build convertable tops for the mitsubish spyders and ive seen them go bad after just 1 month. id unplug one of the motors and try to jump the connection to see if they are bad. if they are both in working order after that then id say you ave bad wiring somewhere from the switch.

My 92 LeBaron top quit working but we can still operate it manually. You just need someone on each side to manuever it.
