I am wanting to repair the rear hatch on my 1996 jeep grand cherokee larado. It is stuck closed, and I do not know how to repair it. Do I get to the handle mechanism thru the licensce plate panel or what
Thanks; John
I start my car but its not working,so I jump start it and it sounds different as usual,I changed fuel filter, oil filter, sparks, sparks plugs still no change,I checked the engine and I saw manifold cracked,so I replaced it,now the car not working, can u help me pls
Nope I'll round pin on a screw after so many lifts the pin wears bigger hole and slides up so when u pull handle the clasp that is around the pin on the screw is higher then before so it almost opens door but not quite what I did was from inside on the bac hatch I wedged my hand down till I could feel the screw and pin and pulled up as I shoved with shoulder outward door opened and I took off cover seen how mechanism worked shifted the pin back down and soldered it no more problems
Go throu licence plate pannel pull up on bar and on the inside under ur pannel the nut fell off the mechanism so just put on a new nut

same problem, handle doesn;t work as though its locked , but every now and then it will work for a couple of times, then stops. related to electric lock release? mechanism rusted?
Tailgate on 1997 jeep grand cherokee will not open. found the remote latch works after removing the panels but when you lift the handle the rod is not moving upward to release the lock.
Rear door is stuck on 1996 Jeep Grand Chrerokee. Cannot find any kind of emergency release. Jeep will not start because I need to reset the alarm system by opening rear hatch and closing, but cannot get the rear hatch door open HHHHHHEEEEEELLLLLLLLLPPPPPPPP
Same thing on my 97 Jeep GCL.
1996 Grand Cherokee was rear ended breaking off latch handle. I can work a screw driver to actuate the part of the handle that remain intacked, but it won't unlatch. The electric lock mechanism and key cylinder still work. How can I expose the latch?
removal of inner panels lets you see the workings of the latch, which is plastic, wish there was a metal one available...I work in a machine shop, If I make some and they work, anyone interested? would still involve installation.
2000 cherokee, handle moves freely but hatch is stuck closed
