I have a 1986 toyota pick-up, 4 cyl, 4wd with a 22r engine. the truck had been overheating and I found a leak in the rad, I replaced the rad and everything was fine for the past few months. Recently it started overheating again, the first time it happened I topped up the fluid and it lasted 3 weeks without overheating again. Then it started to overheat again last night and when I checked the coolant levels it was still full. The other symptom is that there's some white smoke from the exhast when I start the truck that lasts until it's heated up. What could th problem be here? Water pump? Head gasket? Any suggestions?

L could suggest you to check your engine thermostat if is working. if it is found defective,replace. some say, yes, could be the head gasket. it causes also of overheating. but smoke you notice at the tail end, could be you have broken valve seal and eats up the oil. this another problem makes the engine's overheating. the 25 old old engine really need an overhaul.

I have a 1988 Class C motorhome with a Toyota truck cab with a 4 cyl engine, and I also have a 1986 Toyota flatbed truck with a 4 cyl engine. In addition to both engines being 4 cyl, they have identical...

If they are both the 22r motors and you strip them down to just the engine and put all the parts from the vehicle you want to put it in then it will work.
Hopefully you are working with complete vehicles, if not you can always buy the correct parts from a parts store or pick apart yard.
I hope you are building the flatbed, not the motorhome firetrap, because a 4 cylinder motor is about half of what is needed to push a motorhome and i have known several people that have had the 80-88 ish m.homes catch fire on long trips losing everything inside...........

Rear Seals Blown Out

The rear seal can be replaced but not without pulling the transmission, then you remove the seal holding case knock out-the seal and find the number on the seal and buy one and replace it and the gasket to the seal holder, also buy a speedy sleeve for the crank or you will find it leaking again.

1986 Toyota 4X4 22r Engine

Hello;
It sounds as if you have a couple of possible problems. First could be the fuel pump. If yoou disconnect the fuel line, put the line in a jar and crank the engine over, you should get a pint in 15 seconds or so. Also check the pressure, should have around 5 psi. Secondly, you may have a vacuum hose cracked, broken, or leaking. Check your hoses and also the carbureator for leaks.
Hope this helps;
Thanks;
