It sounds like your fuel level sending unit has gone bad. these are usually built into the fuel pump which will require removing the fuel pump to replace.

Fuel gauge stays on full

You may have a unique problem!!! Normally I would say it is the sending unit- in the fuel tank!!!! But Buick LeSabre had a weird thing happen from time to time. Look closely at your fuel guage and focus on the PIN that acts as a stop for the fuel guage to not go beyond the Full mark. Make sure the pin is on the correct side of the pin!!! Sometimes the needle will somehow jump the pin on "E" or "F", and literally hold the needle in place.

Fuel guage stays on full

the problem is the fuel gauge sending unit is an open circuit, this is caused by the sender and it will need to be replaced, use caution when removing the gas tank, also try to have the tank at less than 1/4 full, above all be careful, there is a signifigant fire/explosion hazard when doing this job.

1998 Chev Malibu; Fuel Guage shows Empty.

Hello: Thanks for the follow up. Yes I did fix it. Somehow the needle had slipped over the rest pin
on the guage face, so it rested down in the bottom of the guage. When power was applied it came
up but was now stuck UNDER the rest pin at the EMPTY mark. I got a suitable piece of wire, and
manouvered it through the Odometer reset shaft hole, and carefully worked the needle back on TOP
of the rest pin......Problem solved. I have leared that this happens quite frequently to these Malibus.

Thanks again,
Bill.

1998 DODGE CARAVAN FUEL GUAGE DOESN'T WORK.

Hi my name is Allen!

When this happens it means you have a sending unit bad, what happens is the unit burns up in a certain area and when the contacts reach that area then there is no contact so the needle on cluster drops to zero.

You need a new fuel sending unit, the bad news is the gas tank will need to be taken out of the vehicle to repair this problem.

97 Silhouette Fuel guage not working correctly

drop fuel tank. if guage moves all around its probably the fuel level sensor on fuel pump assembly in the fuel tank. If the guage stay's in one spot its the guage , replace instrument cluster assembly. you can take just the glass off the cluster and move the fuel guage needle and it will work (if stuck) but for how long? The wires to the guage come from the sending unit to the power train control module to the instrument cluster. pray its not in the wiring.
