1998 Chevy Astro Van with rear dutch doors and window.. There is no power going to the lock actuator on the rear window. I removed the actuator (solenoid motor type) and verified it works by connecting +12vdc.. all the other locks including the locks to the rear dutch door work. any ideas or source for wiring diagram. I have not found any diagrams for the dutch door/window arrangement.. fuses seem to be ok, but not sure which fuse connects to this. Im not sure exactly how the rear window solenoid type motor is actuated. but the wiring seems to go to the front of the van and is not connected to anything else in the rear window area.

It wasn't a broken wire. There is an added relay for this dutch door option..located inside the rear passenger side panel.. the common and n/c contacts pass current to the window actuator when the key cylinder is pushed in, except when the door locks are initiated and the common moves to the normally open side, blocking current to the window actuator for some reason. The common and n/c contacts were evidently burned and open. I replaced the relay and all works now.

I found the problem by reverse tracing the wiring back to a faulty relay located in the passenger rear quarter panel.. then reverse engineering and making schematics. when the window button is pushed, current is passed between the common and the n/c side of the relay contacts.. These contacts were not making connection within the relay, most likely burned. The only purpose of the relay is to keep current from flowing to the window actuator when the door locks are being engaged. I suppose this is to keep the window from popping open while your trying to lock the vehicle and accidently push the key lock button at the same time. This arrangement is only for the dutch door option and I have not been able to find schematics.. I replaced the relay and all is ok now. Thanks for the info but I am a 40 year electronics tech and already eliminated a broken wire as a possibility.

Most possible as you have confirmed the status of the actuator to be working and that there is no +12 volt to the window unit ,is a BREAK or OPEN wire int he harness to the door.

This could have snapped at the hinges or there is damage to the harness. A good visual check on this to back trace must get you to the problem.
To confirm that there is a break you can find out the + 12 to the independent circuit on the door. Make sure that an external link with the +12 will get the door lock to work.
This will confirm our theory of an open connection.
Tip: you can remove the other door to get the circuit voltage details , make a detailed marking and compare.

Glad you went beyond my doubts. I thought that the relays were checked as was not mentioned in the first details. Thanks for the share.

Between the door and the door hinged pillar you will see the rubber conduit the wires go through from the body to the door. The wires inside that part will tend to break causing this problem
check that out and splice the wire(s) to repair

I locked the keys into my 1998 chevy astro van. is there a electronic way to short circuit the locking mechanism to get it to open?

no, you need a wooden wedge and a stiff wire. stuff the wedge between the door and doorframe at the top of the window to get enough of a gap to manuver the wire to unlock the doors. be gentle with the wedge, the less you need to pry the door the better.

or you could call your local locksmith/wrecker :)

My 2002 chevy astro van power door locks are not working. Only the drivers side door will open with the keyless entry. Pushing the unlock button inside the van still won't release the other locks. What can...

i can help , kinda, i had trouble with my astro van door lock in the back , it is not connected to the electric door locks , turns out the thing was broke inside, i had to pry off the inside panel and reach inside the door itself to unlock it, this can be done without damaging the panel or trim but you have to unscrew some parts, and work it loose very gently, on the rest of it, well i have been having trouble with the door locks on my astro, i think its just a weakness in design on these guys

I have the Chevy Astro AWD 1998 passenger van with the three part rear door (tilt up window and then split half doors). The handle broke off of the right side primary door. Is there a way to get the door...

just take off the inside panel and look inside the should be some tiny silver bars that either pull up or go side to side, then pull that should open it. also you can get to the handle from the inside access and replace from an auto parts store

1999 chevy astro locks dony work?

Lock actuator on the rear hatch may be bad, I had to replace 3 actuators all at one on my van. I have the same problem with my drivers door you are having with your doors, today I'm gonna pull the door panel off and check the wiring and voltage.
