Don't need codes present to work on a problem

2002 jaguar x type code c1266

this code is not in the list of jaguar codes so i would suggest you ask the mechanic what this means ,This year car is basically a ford mondeo with a different body shape ,its value now is not a lot if its a petrol model maybe a 1000 euros tops but a diesel manual is another proposition ,anyway your problem here i think is a wheel sensor or the magnetic painted path on the back of the wheel bearing ,it will need checking out with a automotive multimeter to locate the fault trying to read a code will not tell you what wheel sensor is faulty and the another thing the ABS computer is the only electronics on the car that will reset itself once the fault is found and cured

I have a 2002 X-type Jag. My engine light comes on and I had it check. The code is P1796. Can you tell what this mean?

My records show that P1796 Fault indicates a Kick Down Switch Circuit Malfunction, however there appears to be some discrepency here as other records show it as a CAN bus (off) fault. A quick check to see if your car will go into kickdown should identify which is which. Clear the fault then drive gently for 20-30 miles, if no engine light then use the kickdown and see if it comes on. You can check out other fault codes at http://www.bluejag.co.uk.

Have jaguar s type 2002 52000miles on clock well serviced mil light on no signs of any problems do we need to get this investigated by our jaguar garage at great expense!or can we sort the problem out...

Maybe get your local garage to use their scanner and read the fault codes. Then progress from there as the fault will become clear. But from experience the s-type often suffers from oxygen sensor problems

X-type jaguar automatic (gear box fault)

I have a 2002 X type (2 litre. done 44000 miles), dash showed gear box problem, (red circle light up). I pulled out and turned the engine off. 5 minutes later turned the engine on. The engine running but the car would not drive either in drive or reverse. Turned the engine off again and on the car driving but not much power. The care is taken to the Jag. dealer and told is misfiring + some gear box faults. Suggesting to change some coils and see (cost about £200+). also possible need to change the gear box costing about £2500+. Please advice. Shall I go ahead with the repair? Should I part exchange.
