You also have a thermostat that mounts in one of the pipes at the top of the engine and there is also a temperature sensor the other problem is you could have a bad water pump lift your hood and see if there is any rust or liquid coming out of the water pump where the pulley is if the pump dosent circulate water you could over heat

If the fans don't come on to cool the radiator then maybe it's the thermal fan switch, which sends the turn on signal to the fan relay, that might be bad.

Check the coolant temperature switch. You should have 12V on one side of the switch. If you jumper the two wires in the switch connector, your radiator fan should run with the ignition switch on. If it runs, replace the coolant temperature switch.

At this point you have a few items to check. 1. is there power at the fan, if you hot wire the fan to the battery does it come on? 2. is the relay good? (may be in front of battery or in power distribution center.) 3. Is the temperature sending unit good? sender send signal to computer, computer sends ground signal to relay that turns on fan. Also check main fuses in dist center.

replace your cooling fan motor relay because if you dont eventually your radiator will explode and this will cause your engine block to crack and then if your fan isn't blowing the engine will continue to overheat and the engine will seize and then you need a new engine. A cooling fan motor relay is around $30.

This means your thermostat is bad. Needs to be replaced. Also do coolant flush.
