It sounds like the pressure control solenoid inside the transmission. With that many miles I would suggest going ahead and rebuilding it. You need to remove the transmission from the van anyway to replace the solenoid. I have rebuild several of these, be sure to put in a shift kit, it makes a big difference. I've rebuilt them before and wasn't happy with the way it shifted, so I pull it back out, put in the kit and that did the trick. So, needless to say, I always put the kit in the first time. Although, I do know a guy that changed his filter and added some Lucus oil treatment for the transmission to the new oil, and he says he hasn't had that problem sence........makes me wonder.

When I found that the hard shifting stopped after I let it cool down on the side of the road I started looking into it. Seems the PCM or power control module was involved. An OBD reader was able to delete the code and this worked for a while but seems the real problem is with the front O2 sensor. Any number of things can make it mess with the tranny and cause hard shifting. Check the code P1133 and you will see what I mean.

Transmission will shift into gear but wont engage

May be a bad Torque Converter Clutch solenoid, or bad torque converter itself.

2004 Montana shifts hard after being driven for about an hour. It has only occurred once, however, other times while sitting at a traffic light, when I press the fuel petal to go, it slips as if...

If the transmission has otherwise being acting OK, then I'd think that fluid and filter might take care of it. A shift solenoid might not be necessary, but it can't hurt. The only thing I differ with you on is your choice of Rislone. They make a great product, no doubt, but I've seen worse problems than you've described made to working smoothly using Lucas Oil.

My wife's Montana (01) has roughly the same miles, and it one time hit hard on a 2 / 3 shift while I was driving it.

I added Lucas (didn't change fluid, filter or anything) and it has worked just fine ever since.

I have a 2000 Pontiac Montana and the code states I need to change the shift solenoid where is this found and is it hard to change? Thanks

Yes it is hard to change. It is in the side cover of the transmission. The transmission will need to be removed to replace it.

On a roadtrip transmssion shifts fine until about five hours then it shifts hard(jerks) when it shifts. i have had the van about one and a half mounths,it has alittle over 90,000.00 miles on it. it has...

I had the same problem with my 1999 Pontiac montana. Unfortunately it is a transmission shop problem. There is a shift solonoid that commonly goes out on these montana's and you have to remove the transmission from the vehicle, remove the left side of the transmission and change the solonoid and recalibrate it. This fixed my montana from the same problem. IF you do not change this solonoid, it will cause tremendous wear on the transmission and it may cost you a new transmission which are relatively hard to find and expensive. I hope this helps.
