You may have broke a connecting rod or spun a bearing due to the over heat. pull the pan :)
The connecting rods are probably frozen to the crank from overheating or the bearings are frozen. Pull the oil pan off and inspect the connecting rod bearings for a blueish coloring which is a sign they overheated. If they are you'll need to replace them all and have the crank and connecting rods turned.
Fig. 1: Remove the coolant recovery tank hose from the water outlet
Fig. 2: Remove the upper radiator hose from the water outlet
Fig. 3: Remove the three retaining bolts for the water outlet
Fig. 4: Carefully separate the water outlet from the thermostat housing
Fig. 5: Remove the thermostat from the housing
Fig. 6: Make sure you replace the O-ring when installing a new thermostat
