Check connections especially to the starter and to the engine ground-you might have a bad cable either going to the starter, or check the small wire connections at the starter soilenoid

I have a discharge warning light on in my car. The car will start and run for a while (on a charged battery) but it soon powers down (dash and cabin lights dim to almost zero) and the car shuts off.

alternator or associated wiring suspect... test for 14.4 volts at battery when all is hooked up proper and running.. if less replace alternator or diagnose further the wiring to and from alternator

'01 Park Ave. base model will not start fuel pump and starter replaced alternator and battery tested good?

It sounds like a bad crank sensor or a cam sensor, regardless your first step before throwing anymore parts into it is to have it scanned. This will a least narrow the problem down to a specific area.
Ask for a print out of the scan. good luck

Batt. and alt. only last 6 months or so then won't start car

Ok, if the cranking amps is like 70AMPs or 100 AMPS as measured by an inductive ammeter on the battery cable when starting, and it does NOT start, then it's a bad starter.

However, if it does start, that's normal.

On a car that old, I would check that the battery cable ends are squeaky clean, wire brushed, or even replaced if cleaning is not possible.

Usually, a battery that is tested good will be good under a load test.

Also, try to use an ammeter to find out if there is a drain on the battery above .2 A while it sits there turned off. This could lead to a solution if you investigate where a short may be.

1997 chevy blazer s10 cranks but wont start

You have a new battery and it cranks. Turning over is cranking. You are saying it won't start after sitting for six months? What is an old mechanic? Was the cable installed at home during the one year layoff? It sounds as though you failed to hold the old mechanic responsible for installing the correct cable or adjusting the one you have ,so it will start. You have a safety switch issue by the sound of it. Make sure you have the right cable and then find out how to install and if applicable, adjust properly

Car would not start. headlights work has battery

IF CAR DONT CRANK CAN BE THAT BATERY IS EMPTY, STARTER OR IGNITION SWITCH. IF ALARM SISTEM IS ORIGINAL TRY THIS: CLOSE ALL DORS AND HOOD, TRUNK AND LOCK AND UNLOCK PASENGER DOR WITH KEY. THIS RESET THE ALARM (IF BATERY IS DISCONECTED)

My lights work, it clicks when the I try to turn over, but it won't start, It jump started but then when I turned the car off again it won't start. I just had the battery replaced less then six months ago...

How long did you let it run before you turned it off? Try putting a battery charger on it for a while. Then after the battery is all charged up, check the alternator.

My battery light came on while driving. In the manual it is short and sweet...says could be charging device problem. Battery is less that six months old. What is the range of possible problems

The most likely problem is your alternator, but you can check with a volt meter to ensure that is your problem. Start your truck (use a battery charger or jump to start it if you need to) and put your meter on the battery post's. If your reading 13volts or so your alternator is working and maintaing voltage, however if your reading starts dropping to 10 or less(may take a few moments to drop) then it's probably your alternator. You can also check your battery's voltage before starting your vechile, if the voltage increases after you start the vechile then it seem to be charging.

Here's a start for you, hope this helps
