Not likely more common for sway bar links. The upper and lower portion of the links become loose and cause a clunking noise turning or over bumps. They are also known for the lower intermediate steering shaft. This is more common and noticeable just turning especially in parking lot maneuvers (not going over bumps).
Its hard to diagnose properly because a lot of noises are described differently by different people. The only other thing you maybe describing is a wheel bearing noise. This is more of a low growl type noise. It will appear going straight getting louder with speed, and become louder or deeper turning in one direction, but not the other. I would still suspect only sway bar links as I said before.
