It could possibly be a faulty gauge, this is a pretty common issue for Trailblazers to have. Here's a link with more information about these GM gauge problems. Also, where you can purchase replacement parts on Amazon if you want to do the repair yourself.
Trailblazer Speedometer
I would 1st check the oil to make sure the proper amount is there, if it is ok, then i would check for serious oil leaks, if none, check the oil sending unit, it is sometimes located on the top, or side, or close to rear of engine, make sure the wire to it is connected, "next step is i would replace the oil sending unit, if you do it yourself, you will need a special socket to be used along with a ratchet and extension to remove the sending unit, before installing the new one, wrap a couple of layers of white teflon tape around the threads of the new sending unit, screw the unit end , and tighten down, start vehicle up and look at gage , engine light might go off, if it doesn't, you can disconnect 1 of your battery cables for a couple of minutes , and then re connect it, and then start engine, and see if light went out, if light is still on, code tester will have to be hooked up to the aldl link under the instrument panel , normally close to steering wheel on the left side,, and tester will show what trouble codes have been stored [ if any] and tester can be used to remove light from being on. if you choose to disconnect 1 of the battery cables, you will have to reset your radio, and other auto functions. hope that this information has been helpful .
