After driving for 25 or more miles engine wont accelerate when stopped have to keep foot on accelerater and brake it is ok after it sits for an hour or so.
Did you ever figure out what the problem was? I have a 2001 Catera Sport that shuts down while driving. After it sits for a bit it will start up again but shuts down out of no where? I have the same issue. Car will want to stop normally at the beginning of a drive while at a light but will shut off during normal speed on the road as well no warning just stops. If you shut everything off and wait 15 to 30 min it will start again. Check engine light is on and the codes are camshaft position senor , main catalytic and idle speed sensor does anyone know if any of these are the issue.Or what kind of money this may cost or if it is simple enough to do myself. Help!!!! sick of breaking down in traffic.I have the same issue. Seems like a Fuel injection isue. Try using higher brand fuels with detergents. Put in a bottle of (Techron) in your tank, See how many gallos tank, your vehicle has and buy the appropriate amount. Yep that\'s what auto trans do. it tries to do engine braking, just don\'t accelerate at all. When you go down hill in a manual gearbox, you would also have to downshift to let the engine do the braking.
1.let car sit overnight. 2. Start engine, put A/C on high, let it idle for 20-25 minutes, 2, then drive car uninterrupted for 60mph for 10 minutes, 3. slow down to 25 mph for 4 minutes, come to a complete stop with foot on brake let it idle for 2 minutes, 4. drive again at 30 mph for 8 minutes, come to a complete stop let it idle with foot on brake for 3 minutes. 4. Drive at 40 mph (turn off overdrive) for 6 minutes. 5. Drive at 20mph for 3 minutes at a time, each time coming to a complete stop with foot on brake for 2 minutes. Do this 4 times. Let the car cool overnight and repeat entire process. Then check status of systems with a code scanner.
this sounds like a bad speedometer cluster, you stated everything else works so i assume the speedometer is working and just the odometer and trip stopped working and so the speedometer will need replacing. good day.
Generic OBD II "Drive Cycle"
Most OBD II ("On-Board Diagnostics II") diagnostic monitors will run at some time during normal operation of the vehicle. However, to satisy all of the different Trip enable criteria and run all of the OBD II diagnostic monitors, the vehicle must be driven under a variety of conditions. The following drive cycle will (theoretically) allow all monitors to run on (??) vehicle. (Note: Drive cycle specifics vary by vehicle!)
Ensure that the fuel tank is between 1/4 and 3/4 full.
Start cold (below 86°F /30°C) and warm up until engine coolant temperature is at least 160° F (typically requires at least one minute; up to 3 minutes).
Accelerate to 40-55 MPH at 25% throttle and maintain speed for five minutes.
Decelerate without using the brake (coast down) to 20 MPH or less, then stop the vehicle. Allow the engine to idle for 10 seconds, turn the key off, and wait one minute.
Restart and accelerate to 40-55 MPH at 25% throttle and maintain speed for two minutes.

Well 145K is alot of miles, catera's are not that reliable especially after 100K. It sounds like you could have multiple issues but take it to a mechanic asap before it becomes unfixable.
