SOURCE: changing an alternator on a 99 saturn
yeah you can install a new alternator by your self. you just need to get a belt puller.
SOURCE: 2001 saturn sc2 gets code 341&340 camshaft sensor
if you have high resistance in secondary ign. system (plug wires, ign.coil) this will cause this code to set. make sure you are using a high quality spark plug wire set. not from autozone!!! and denso non platinum tipped spark plugs. also use a diaelectric grease on plug wires to keep moisture out.

Most likely it's a stuck lifter. Try running some SeaFoam or Marvel Mystery Oil in the oil for maybe 500 miles and then doing an oil change; usually this will free them up. Otherwise you'll probably have to replace the lifters (they come as a set). How many miles do you have on it? What oil do you use? And how often do you change it?
SOURCE: 1998 saturn sc2 P0303 code just came up. already
p303 is a cylinder 3 missfire I woul first check the coil and then the ingnition module, Then if this dont work you could have a bad injector. If after testing and still no fix you should check the compression in that cyl.
SOURCE: How hard is it to change the oil rings and piston
on a level of 1 to 10, this would be very high up there. if you don't have expertise in building engines i would not recommend you try replacing the piston rings yourself. it requires you to remove the engine from the car and completely disassemble it down to a bare block. once you've accomplished that you then need to put it all back together the right way, make sure all tolerances are correct, and with everything torqued to specfication. There is a LOT involved when replacing piston rings so be sure you know what you're getting into before even remotely considering doing this on your own. i can tell you though that if you have to pay a professional shop to do this, it's most likely going to cost more than the cars worth to get it running properly again.
