2003 saturn vue: engine shut off while driving; tried to restart. Starter and motor turned but would not restart. 1 hour later started and drove it. This is second time in 3 weeks. What could it be?

I looked at info for 4 cylinder engine, 2.2L
You have to remove starter motor to get at it, so says my database.

Fuel filter is clogged. Or the catalyst converter is clogged.

check the crank shaft sensor ,check the timing belt . check the coil , check the fuel pump pressure

if it shuts off like the key was turned off then replace the crankshaft position sensor its near the starter

sounds like a throttle sensor fault do to the fact that the saturn vue doesnt idle at 500 normally its uaually between 600-800. i suggest getting it hooked to a diagnostic machine to find wat the codes are cause im sure it will be several.

Rather then replacing a bunch of parts because someone suggested it could be this or that , your best bet , take it to a qualified diagnostic technician . One that has the knowledge an testing equipment . Could be any number of thing's . guessing doesn't work .

it sounds like the starter maybe getting hot or there is a loose connection at the battery or bad battery

two things it might be 1? crank shaft sensor or 2? camshaft sensor

Check your battery terminal conections are clean and tight.

Check battery is in good condition.

1. Try putting the gear shift in neutral and then attempt to start. If your VUE starts, replace the neutral safety switch.

2. Turn on the headlights and attempt to start while someone is watching for the lights to dim. If the lights dim while trying to start, remove starter and have it tested.

3. Take proof of ownership to the dealer and have them cut a new key. There is a chip inside the key, that when it's inoperative, will let you turn the key to the start position, but vehicle will not start.
