Transmission fluid should be changed every 30,000 miles, or more frequently if the vehicle is used for towing or carrying heavy loads.

When replacing the transmission fluid, first the mechanic drives the vehicle to get the fluid warm and then removes the drain plug at the bottom of the transmission (if applicable), or removes the transmission pan allowing the fluid to drain.

The transmission is then filled with fresh fluid, and the engine is started. With the engine running and the transmission in "Park," the mechanic checks the level of the transmission fluid on the dipstick. Then the vehicle is driven once more, and the fluid level rechecked; if needed, more fluid is added.

Using the wrong automatic transmission fluid may invalidate the manufacturer's warranty and affect the shift characteristics of the transmission. Consult the owner's manual for information on the kind of fluid to use.

Many automatic transmissions have a filter that can be replaced when changing the transmission fluid. Changing this filter may allow a closer examination of the fluid for debris, which may be a sign that the transmission is about to fail.

Hope this helps.

How can I flush my 2002 axiom Isuzu transmission?

I don't recommend using the flush machine on any vehicle. In the case where you have to flush the transmission then you need a special machine that was running about $160 to $200 to flush a transmission. I recommend removing the drain pan and draining the transmission. After the transmission is drained start the vehicle for about a minute to empty the torque converter. Replace the filter and the pan and fill to the proper level. Test drive the vehicle about 2 blocks to make sure everything gets filled and top off transmission as needed.

How do you change transmission fluid in an 1999 alero olds

This usually depends on what kind of transmission maintenance you wish to do. if you want to do a complete flush you need to take it to a shop and have it flushed professionally. If you would rather do a drain and fill, then this is definitely something that can be done at home. I would also recommend changing the transmission filter and pan gasket. Will only take you a few extra minutes and will save you alot of trouble in the long run. Before you get started, be aware that it is not always recommended to do a complete flush on older model, high mileage vehicles. As the transmission fluid becomes worn, it creates deposits and when you completely flush the system, sometimes the deposits are left behind and will clog up the oil ports and cause you some major headaches. Always do at least 5 drain and fills before you flush the whole system. For a complete pictorial guide on how to perform a drain and fill please go here.

Want to know if you recommend a transmission flush for my car? It has over 140,000 miles. What sevices do you recommend?

Yes a tranny flush would be great. I would recommend Either Going out and purchasing a new tranny filter, gasket and Transmission fluid from your local Auto parts store and doing it yourself, CHEAPEST. Or going to your local Valvoline to have it flushed. Cost is around $100

(1996 Volvo 850)How do I do a transmission flush?

yes, you need a transmission flush machine. it is the only way to get 100% fluid exchange. i would strongly recommend having this professionally done, as a transmission is a very expensive experiment.

around 75,000 miles, plus or minus 15,000 or so. when you say shaking, do you mean a rough idle? thats not cause by your transmission per se...

Sounds more like a weak fuel pump, idle controller, or well, theres a bunch of reasons you could have a rough idle.
