2000 ford expedition, 5.4 Triton. fuel pump failed. Changed fuel pump, filter, and pump relay. Vehicle started fine the first time and idled good for about 20 minutes. Proceeded to drive it about half a mile and it died. Now when I try to start it it idles roughly and when i push the throttle, it dies. fuel pressure is about 32 psi. Not sure what the problem is. Can anyone assist?

Having fuel delivery problems ? It's not the fuel pump relay ! You probably have a bad fuel pump driver module . Pull you spare tire down an look on the frame above ! Watch this F150 Expedition No Start P1233 Fuel Pump Driver Module
Have you changed your fuel filter? When is the last time you changed your sparkplugs? Have you had any codes on the computer? Heres what I would do. First change your sparkplugs. This is a 4-6 hour job. You have to unbolt the cop(coil on plug assembly). After you change the plugs your truck will run rough. Drive it around the block then back to your house. It will take 3-5 restarts before your truck quits running rough. Reason for this is because your computer is trying to "relearn" the firing order. I have done this several times so i know what i am talking about. You can even look it up. Your 2000 expedition is a dang good truck with a great engine. After your computer relearns the firing order then the rough idle will be gone. Then I would take it out on the freeway and run it hard for 5-10 miles. If you experience a miss or two then that means you need a new cop(s). Get a code reader and it will tell you which cop is bad. Cops are expensive. I bought 6 new ones on ebay for $40. If you buy from autozone or ford dealer then you are looking at about 80-100 bucks a piece. Tell me if this helps. Ford makes a good truck and the expedition is a great truck. Mine is a 2000 expedition also. I have 248,000 miles on it and running strong with no burning oil. Good luck.
It is usually located in the fuse box in the engine compartment. Once you locate the relay you can see what other relays have the same part number and switch them just to see if it will start then. Be aware and keep track of the relay you swap though and do not use a crucial one that affect the safety of the vehicle. If the vehicle has been in an accident or even as happened with me one time in my Ford a blowout that made the vehicle jar pretty hard then the safety fuel shut off may have triggered and needs to be reset by pushing the reset button. This should be located behind the front passenger kick panel by the right foot. Just push it in if this is the case..
hear a dump under truck ???? What's that ? Or do you mean thump ? Would need to hear it .
Did you hook up a fuel pressure gauge to test fuel pressure an flow ? Did you check the fuel pump electrical circuit ? Testing Electric Fuel Pump Problems with Voltage Drop Test
Did you look at a wiring diagram to see what all is involved in the fuel pump electrical circuit ? Using a DVOM - digital volt ohm meter to test the electrical . If there is fuel pressure you wouldn't need to do voltage drop testing . Video's on youtube for checking fuel pressure . Learn to test if you want to fix your own vehicle , or take it to a qualified repair shop. Watch some of this guy's video's 2003 2006 Ford Expedition Crank No Start Diagnosis
Probably the inertia switch for the fuel pump..You owners manual should show you where its located..See if the button has pop up ..If it has push it back down until it clicks..If it wont stay down then hold it down and see if it will start..If it does you will have to replace it..If thats all good then check the relay for the fuel pump..
may be low fuel pressure at start up. Try this, turn key to ON and wait 5 seconds for fuel pump to stop humming. Then try starting. If it starts up faster, you have a bad check valve in the fuel pump, change it. It's in the fuel tank.
Slim chance it could be the fuel pressure regulator on the fuel rail with the injectors. very seldom fails.
Finally, your cold fast idle circuit is not wokring right. Clean passages.
on this vehicle their is a frequence controlled device on the top of the tank which has 4 wires running to it the two thicker wires have to be cut and joined to bypass the immobilisor system but i think you have a problem with the immobilisor so if you check it and no spark then this is your problem and only a dealer can re-programme it for you ,try the spare key first and if still no joy then tow trucjk to dealer for re-programming and get both keys done at the same time .
When you start the truck if it does not idle fast and then cut down you are not getting a cold start routine. That routine is built-in and it is suppose to enrich the fuelmix and speedup the idle. It kinda works like a choke.
This feature is triggered by a water temperature sensor. The other water sensor operates your temperature gauge. You just need to go to a parts store like Autozone and see a picture of the part and its location. It will probably be better to remove it from a Cold engine because the thermostat will be closed and you should not lose much antifreeze.
Remember to tell them you want the sensor for the computer controls and not the dash gauge.
