That is very often a sign of low fluid.
Sometimes it isn't really that it's cold, it's that after a vehicle has been sitting for a little while the fluid drains back to the bottom, to the pan, so at start up it runs fine because the fluid level is high enough for the pump to function properly, but, after a few minutes of running the level in the pan drops too low for the pump to function properly.
If you know your transmission fluid level is good, you may consider having the, "shift solenoid" checked.

told the chevy dealer about the solenoid and he said no that it is normal for the equinox to do this my father has a 2006 too and his is ok i told him

Nope asked again to check it the advisor said there is no check engine light on and blames it on the cold the day before i noticed it happening i had the transmission oil cooler rlines changed and the next morning i noticed her slipping for the first few min bought it back and the checked the oil mechanic asked me do i think he was stupid cause i bought it back to get the oil checked
the 2006 equinox has had a lot off problems since i bought it two wheel bearings key cylinder head gasket dome gasket twice second time they never put enough siclone around it brake stwice front shocks right after we bought it when it was two years old teriable gas milage 400 km a tank and alitre off oil between oil changes
asked again this morning how hard is it to check it the shift solenoid

bought her back in yesterday for a trans flush and they hooked her up to the teck 2 thing everthing was good they said phoned him back thismorning after i tried her out shifs good he told me something he said the trans mission had too much oil in it so after they changed the trans mission cooler lines they must have had put too much oil in it could that have been the problem all along
