22re engine , I replaced the oil pressure sending unit , tested the guage and I still cant get oil pressure reading on the guage . I hooked up an manual gage and the engine has 70 lbs oil pressure at idle cold , and 45 when hot . Why wont the factory guage work?

It could be anything from a faulty oil pressure gauge, to a mechanic's trick to keep you from finding out the engine is soon to expire. They sometimes unplug the gauge on purpose. Fords can run a little low on oil for a while without signs or problems. I'd start by checking your oil. If it is not low on oil, there is a sensor on the engine block you might want to replace, It should have a wire hooked to it. That is your sensor. If this doesn't work, go to the gauge itself.
remove sending unit and install mechanical gauge to see oil pressure psi if psi reads ok- change sending unit again if psi to low less then 6 replace oil pump och.
Remove the sending unit on the engine and check the oil press with a test gauge, if the oil pressure is good on the test gauge replace the oil press sending unit on the engine. Note the removal and installation of the sending unit requires a special socket, that is available at any auto parts store, you will likely need the deep version of that socket for a Chrysler product.
First thing is find out if the oi pressure is really high. Remove the oil pressure sending unit and hook up a oil pressure test gauge kit, if the pressure is within normal then replace the sending unit first. (requires a special socket)
Connect test leads to the guage and apply 12 volts, if the guage activates upward this works, if it's the oil preaaure in regards to the oil pump, you need to hook up a oil pressure guage.
make sure it isnt leaking when it has oil pressure. Make sure the wire is hooked up to the oil pressure switch. Use an ohm meter black to the housing and red to the terminal it should have a completed circuit with the engine off. The circuit will be complete with the engine running. Remove the oil sending unit and check the oil pressure with a guage to read the oil pressure on the engine (make sure the oil level is correct on the engine).
It is not hard to change the sending unit. I reccomend that you remove the sending unit and hook up a test gauge, then you will know if your pressure is actually too high, or not.
u need to have a manual pressure guage hooked up to verify that the oil pressure is within specs and comes up to spec within a few seconds, don't fool around here u could ruin the engine if the oil pump has a problem, if all checks ok replace the sender, if that doesn't do it the guage needle is sticking, I have seen both at the Ford dealer I work at.
Te 1st thing to do is replace the oil pressure guage sending unit, most times that is the problem, if press remains low use a mechanical test guage to verify what the oil pressure is, hook this tester up at the port the sending unit is screwed into.
