Front wheels engage on G/Vit XL& TD 2ltr 2004 in 4WD but tranfer box appears to be broken. No 4WD in h and low 4WD but when in neutral 4WD even normal gears are disengagaed. Is it only a matter of changing the transfer box or is there more to it (ie thing of maybe attached to gear box by chain or something)

make sure you have enough oil in transfer case, if not then you'll be there all year.

SOURCE: suzuki vitara transfer box got i stuck in 4x4 low

sounds like you may have jamed the linkage. youll have to look underneath to see. back in hunting season i had a tire flip a stick into the linkage of my F-150. thought i had broke some thing till i look under and saw the stick. whew what a relief. when shifting in and out of 4x4 always put tranny in neutral and set parking brake. when shifting out you can move backwards slowly and out shift easier. gl

SOURCE: Transfer gear case shift jammed

There are four probable causes when the gear is stuck in one position, and they are precisely explained in this handy diagnostic article that I know will help narrow down the culprit of your difficulty:

02 Yukon keeps blowing a fuse even when the switch is unplugged on the 4x4

There is an actuator motor located on the transfer case. It selects range; hi neutral and lo and engages the front differential. There is a second clutch actuator motor on the front differential that engages the front wheel hubs.

You will need to disconnect both motors to eliminate electronics. It could also be you have an abraided wire to either the transfer case or the front differential. If unplugging both actuators doesnt stop fuse blow, you will need to test for signal or power to ground shorts.

My land rover discovery is stuck in 4 wheel drive, what can cause this?

The discovery is as previously mentioned permanent four wheel drive. However the difflock/range lever in most suffers from lack of use and siezes all i had to do when i bought mine was plenty of WD40 and patience as i don't think it had been in low range or difflock from the day it was built.don't try to force it just spray it and let it soak then try keep doing this and it should free up if not it may be the selector grubscrew has worked loose just threadlock it and screw it back in.

Four wheel drive wont engage. Tranfer case is

Sounds like you either have a vaccum leak or your 4 wheel drive actuator is not working to engage the front differential. On my 98 ram there is a black and red plastic lines that are used for the vaccum lines. They are underneath and go from the transfer case to the front axle, check to see if one or both might be cracked or broke completely. If the lines are good then it could be your actuator on the front axle. A new one is about $93 at advance auto parts and not very hard to replace

1988 ford ranger push button four wheel drive an it wont engage all the wires are good it just clicks when u push the button.. what should i look for to make the four wheel drive work again it wont...

Start out with buying yourself a $25 book from the Parts House. The I would go to the front HUBS, secure & safety vehicle before you do anything, Clean, Inspect, Lune & Repair front Hubs as required, get the brakes while you're there. Check your drive line, axles, u-joints etc. Clean , repair , replace as needed. Check for Tranfer case Operation. Is there power going to the front Axle when 4WD is engaged? do you feel a change when you engage the Transfer Case? Have you checked the Power on the circuits? Have you Manual or Auto-locking Front Hubs? Answer all those Questions & read before you do anything.

How do i engage 4wd in a 2003 jeep grand cherokee?

Jeep transfer cases are designed to be engaged when rolling from 3mph and up...low range should only be selected at low speed (around 3mph). Don't attempt to shift unless vehicle is moving...gears will not mesh properly. Try to find a manual to get the specifics of all variations of using the shift combinations available. (many times can be found in the gloveboxes of vehicles in scrapyards...just ask!

91 Jeep Wrangler Sahara, 2WD won't engage, 4WD is fine!

It sounds like your driveline to the rear wheels is broken. Could be transfer case output shaft to the rear wheels has broken. Try disconnecting the rear drive shaft and see if you can turn it by hand with the transfer case engaged in 2WD. If you can turn it while the Sahara is in gear, the output shaft is no longer connected to the engine for some reason.
