Your catalytic converter is not doing it's job efficiently enough and it is setting off your sensor. This problem is emissions problem and usually has no effect on the operation of your vehicle( unless the converter clogs) As long as you don't live somewhere they do emissions test you don't really have to worry about it. However if you want to fix it you can take converter off and run a straight pipe or to do it "right" you could go pay way to much to get a new converter put on.

Yes those could be a sign of a bad cat. Honestly I would cut it off and run a straight pipe. If you have enough know how to do it yourself. That way it doesnt cost u a thing and it prevents any problems from happening with it. I always take off my cat, they only cause problems. I would have to say with that code and those symptoms it is probably your cat. It may just be getting to the point where it's almost clogged, so its starting to run worse. You could just take it in and get it checked if you don't want to run a straight pipe. A shop won't do straight pipe because your "supposed" to have a cat.

where is the hissing coming from? ur upstream nank 2 sensor is b4 ur cat then u have 1 after ur cat that is downstream. the downstream sensor reads the ecxhaust after it comes out of the cat and sends info to the upstream sensor on what the best mixture of gas

Auto zone checked our 2001 jeep grand cherokee laradeo and said the oxygen sensor is going bad. they sold my wife a new one , but how do i no which one to replace with the new one . i check the internet...

If there was a trouble code, the code should tell you which one? bank 1 or bank 2, and or sensor 1 or sensor 2. Bank 1 on a v engine is the bank with number one cylinder. Bank 2 is the other bank. Some sensors are labeled upstream and downstream in relation to the cat, before or after. Upstream is senor 1 and downstream from the cat is sensor 2.
Is it clear as mud?

02 sensor location for 2002 grand jeep cherokee

if it is a cyl. you will have a few of them on the exhaust, you will have an upstream located before the catalytic converter, and a down stream after the converter. If it is a v8 you will have the same except a bank 1 uptream and down stream, and a bank 2 upstream and down stream (two in the left and two on the right).

Main catalyst efficiency below threshold bank 2 cherokee 2001

If the readings were close to passing, use 3oz of acetone per 10 gals of fuel and it should pass. Then you have a whole year to figure out what's wrong with it! Main cat is the large one. all others are pre-cats.

O2 sensor where are they located

the 1996 grand only used 2 02 sensors on the 2 engine options.....the 5.2 v8 sensors are located 1 just in front of the convertor and the downstream is in the convertor....the 4.0l the downstream is in the convertor and the upstream is located in the exhaust manifold right under the intake manifold.
