When you said take the system out and throw it away, it means i dont need to do anything else? I don't want to bypass or override it , I just want to get rid of it. Do I need to buy the unit from newrockies after that or not?

  • James Oct 28, 2017

Hve you just tryed to on hook the battery and see if computer rests itself?

  • James Oct 28, 2017

    Unhook even

  • James Oct 28, 2017

If that doesnt work look up diagram s online to get a better idea where the unit might be first then you sould be able to see what your dealing with.

Leave the key in the ignition, turned to 'run' (just before the crank position) and leave it there for about 15 minutes-the security light will then stop flashing-do NOT turn it off, turn it to crank and start the car. You have a security module that is not seeing the same resistance in the ignition switch as it expects, meaning you will have to either replace the ignition switch (expensive) or bypass the module (easy and inexpensive)-I have done lots of these, requires about 15 cents worth of parts and can be done in 1/2 hour.

MIke i have a 1999 chevy tahoe that i have just started having this issue with and replaced $$$$$$$$$$$ in frickin parts , how do u do this ?? thanks

  • mike mountain Jul 21, 2012

If you search the internet, there is a technique where you remove the security module that is easily found behind the glovebox, snip a specific wire and soder or splice a 2200 ohm resistor you get from radio shack. This tricks the module into thinking the key cylinder is still within the expected resistance and allows the starter and crank sensor to function. This is NOT difficult to do, it just requires cutting ONE wire and splicing the resistor into the circuit. I rarely come onto this site anymore (it is messed up, used to be a nice place to help people but has turned into one big ad for the operators). I will try to help if you have questions, but as I stated, I am rarely here anymore.

If the headlights are flashing, the alarm system is factory installed. Inserting the key into the driver door lock and turning to the left then back to the right is supposed to disarm it. If the parking lights are blinking,, the alarm is an aftermarket add on, and there should be a disarm button under the dash on the driver side. If it' an aftermarket alarm, you should be able to have it removed. There is a way to bypass the factory alarm. There is a wiring harness in the driver's door. You will have to remove the door panel to find it. The wire is dark green and purple. Splice into that wire and ground it to the chassis and the alarm should no longer work.

It's when the security light starts flashing that the infamous "chip" in the key becomes a nightmare to many. Gradually the car begins not cranking anymore or if it cranks it would start and die in a second. Randomly it will do this more and more often until it won't start anymore. VATS, PASSkey and Passlock immobilizer systems are killing cars all over North America, they have a short lifespan and are certainly more effective against owners than thieves. Here is how you save your car
1st trick, (if not starting) turn the key forward 2 clicks till right before it would normally start, leave like that for 10 minutes. ( no less ) After 10 minutes, turn key back then forward and your car might start. I did this in my regal for more than a year. If its shuting down while running, im sorry i have no quick fix...

Cheap fix: Bypass the chip in your key. Temporary, but effective. Until the TDM (theft deterrent module) in the dash poops out, then you're kinda screwed. I was told that these types of key security systems have a 7-10 year life span. Sucks for us. This link explains the "Key Issue" pretty well.
----- http://vats.likeabigdog.com/

Never worry again fix: Bypass the whole VATS/Passlock/passkey I or passkey II system entirely. Literally take it out, and throw it away. I just did this in my Regal. Took about an hour. Took longer to find the thing than it did to fix the problem. For a list of cars effected by this problem. See the NEWROCKIES link on the right side of their page......... They sell a unit for 200 bucks to totally bypass this system FOREVER. life time-money back and all that. Finally did this in my car. Well worth the 200 if you've looked into getting this replaced... Anywhere from 600-1000 bucks.
----- http://newrockies.ca?ap_id=judd0081
----- With this fix, you can take that whole Vats, passlock, passkey **** system out of your car all together. Good info on both sites

It works for:
Any GM or Isuzu Vehicle with VATS or PASSKey or PASSLock security systems.
If your car has the chip in the key or in the lock cylinder, then you can save it with this Full Bypass.

SOURCE: 2000 Alero Security light flashing and wont start

With the new lock cylinder in it, turn the key on. The security light should blink. Leave the key on for 10 minutes, the security light will quit blinking and go out after 10 min. This will reprogram your security system and the car should start. Also leave a battery charger on it while the key is on, If the battery goes dead during the 10 minute reprogram sequence, you will have to start over again.

SOURCE: security light is blinking on dashboard, car wont

The security system (VATS/Passkey) installed on these GM cars is anti-owner more than an anti-theft. There are 3 parts involved:

  1. The chip-key
  2. The lock cylinder
  3. The TDM (aka the brain of the system)
if any of these parts fails or is even slightly malfunctioning, the car stays stuck where you are and you only get a dealer asking you about 1,000$ to fix it. And all the 3 parts have a quite short lifespan. Way too many people got in this situation (including myself). I don't recommend any partial solution or any used parts as it would happen again way too soon to be acceptable and if it happens 100 miles from home (like it happened to me....) it's a big burden. I finally made it to save my beloved 94 Park Avenue (with the same system that is installed in your car) with a solution that I found on the internet and that bypasses the entire factory security system, all 3 pieces altogether and you can even remove the TDM at the end and use 99c keys without chip. The product I used is at http://newrockies.com and is still working perfectly after 5 years. Don't go to the dealer!

My 2007 silverado was fine when i parked it last nite..now it wont start..plenty of battery and lights..but no ignition..and the steering wheel is not locked when in park..it will not start in park, or...

The steering wheel will not "lock" until you turn it about 45 degrees from center...this is normal. If your security light is flashing, there is a problem with your security system that is keeping you from starting the engine. Try this: Set the parking brake. Turn the ignition to the "RUN" position and wait about 10 minutes for the security light to stop flashing. When the light stops flashing, crank the engine without turning the key to the off position. If it starts, take the vehicle to get the security system checked. If it doesn't start, tow it. You probably need a new PassKey sensor.

2001 monty carlo changed battery securty light flashing car wont start. car ran great before any trick or code i dont know to get it to start

Leave the key in the run position until the security light stops blinking. This should take 10 minutes. Then turn the key off, wait 5 seconds and try to start it. The security light should be blinking again. Leave the key on again for 10 minutes. Repeat this 3 times. After the third time on the the next start it should start and run fine. This will reprogram your theft system.

I was checking the fuses on my Venture and now it wont start up.

You may have removed the fuse for theecurity system. When you turn the key to start, does the security light start to flash? If it does the security system will need to be reset. Most GM's reset is to leave the key in the run position after you try to start it. It usually takes 30 min in this position to reset. Some times you need to try to start it and leave the key in the run position for 10 min, off and back to the run position for a total of 3 times and on the last time its off go straight to start it position. I have found it by googling resetting security system venture van. Good luck.

Security light flashing and car won't start now

does it start at all, or does it run for about 1 second and shut off? if the latter, then it's the passlock system, and he could have a defective key or security module. the keys have a predetermined resistance value which activates the passlock system to prevent hotwiring. If it is the passlock system, then sometimes you have to wait 15-20 mins for it to reset before starting the engine.
