it may not be a spare key !
some cars have a set of keys
one that unlocks the door but does not start the car
one that may unlock the boot but not the car door
the key will not leave the ignition unless the car is in park and the key is in off position. it could be whatever tells the car that its in park or a problem with the slot itself. ive had similar problems with the key sticking in multiple locks in the car, even the ignition. i tried deicing and lubricating all of them; it did nothing. so i tried my spare key, it worked on every lock. wat ive found is that the tumbler arrangement for this car prevents duplicating but the key itself can wear out over time due to its complex shape. try a spare key if you have one or order a new one from the dealership.
Check your key for wear and try your spare key. Keys are made of soft brass and the teeth wear as the car ages. You can have a perfect brand new key cut to code if your key is worn or damaged, but try your spare first to see if this is the cause..
If the car is parked with teh wheels offset the steering wheel lock can also put pressure on the key system so try rotating the wheel slightly right or left
Sounds like your key is worn out. The sharp cuts on the head of the key wear out over time causing the ignition to lose "grip" on the key allowing it to be pulled from the ignition. Try using a new spare key or have a new key made. If the key is coded you may need to have the dealer cut and program a new key for you.
try a spare key, or push key into lock while turning
it is the tip [pointy end] of the key that releases the switch tumbler lock allowing it to turn. keys & switches wear out, a 'heavy' key ring especially wears the switch.
The key may be worn the groves on the key raise the tumblers which make electrical contact in the ignition when the the key wears down one or more of the tumblers may not be making contact causing the passlock system to kick in try you spare on have a new key made if this does not solve the problem a new ignition switch usualllly needs to be installed..
how warn down are the keys? from wear and tear the do eventually wear down till they dont work try that, or if it is cold out side then try putting it in some heat it could be froze if that dont work.... BUY A DODGE!!! lol
