I have a 2003 PT Cruiser which showed code P0340 initially. Before the code appeared, the car shuddered violently when accelerated quickly. I was told the code related to the camshaft position sensor. So, I had the part replaced. It worked great for about 2 weeks then did it again on fast acceleration. New codes appeared P0344 & P0522. I took it in and they could not diagnose it. I moved it to a dealer and they came back saying "it seems to be an intermittant problem, but they feel it could be the wiring harness to the PCM" Of course, the estimate was $1,200. I was wondering does this sound right and can a do-it-yourselfer do anything to detect this or repair it?

my car got the same reading P0340 it does not want to start, and shifts very bad when i go to accelerate , or even take off from a stopping point. I have replaced just about everything on this car from input /output controll sensors to the main brake thing up in the top of the engine drivers side, not sure of the name there, but i have had nothing but trouble with this engine since I got the carmy car got the same reading P0340 it does not want to start, and shifts very bad when i go to accelerate , or even take off from a stopping point. I had a similar problem, the engine started revving high while in park. Then the check engine light came on, code p0344. I replaced the camshaft position sensor and the problem was gone... for about three hours. Now it won't start at all, i have power to everything, lights, horn, windows, etc. but the car will not turn over at all. I had a similar problem, the engine started revving high while in park. The P0340 and P0344 codes are for the crankshaft position sensor on bank One, (Left side of the engine as you stand at the belt and pulley end of the engine block). Replace the sensor to see if it fixes the problem.
I cannot find a U1412 code so it could be a Dealership only error code.
First check the easy thing. Have your battery tested. Sensors very sensitive to failing battery. If the battery tests fine then you will need to change the Cam sensor probably a $30 part. On your truck remove the air filter housing & the cam sensor should be easily accessible at the front of the cyl head. Hope this works for you. Based on your P codes it should.
P0016 Crankshaft Position - Camshaft Position Correlation P0135 O2 Sensor Heater Circuit P0138 O2 Sensor Circuit High Voltage P0340 Camshaft Position Sensor "A" Circuit P0344 Camshaft Position Sensor "A" Circuit Intermittent P0508 Idle Air Control System Circuit Low P0522 Engine Oil Pressure Sensor/Switch Low Voltage _____________-- JMA TRS-5000 Cloning Machine
Track the p0340 first camshaft timing is very important and could possibly cayse your other codes,Call your local GMC dealer I think I remember a bulletin about this code.
Trouble Code: P0139 O2 (B1 S2) Slow Response Trouble
Code Conditions:Engine started; vehicle driven at 20-55 mph with the
throttle open for 2 minutes; ECT at more than 158ºF (70C); catalytic
converter temperature is more than 1112F (600C); and EVAP purge is
active. O2 Sensor signal voltage switches less than 16 times from lean
to rich within 20 seconds during monitoring, or will compare the state
of change between the front and rear O2 Sensors and if the differences
are greater than a calibrated amount, the DTC will set. 3 good trips
are required to turn off the MIL. Possible Causes:
Exhaust leak
O2 element is contaminated, deteriorated or it has failed
O2 signal circuit or return circuit has failed
Trouble Code: P0344 Camshaft Position Sensor Circuit Intermittent Trouble
Code Conditions:Engine cranking or running; system voltage over 10.5v.
The PCM detected an intermittent loss of the CMP Sensor signal during
the period of 2.5 complete engine revolutions. The failure counter must
reach 20 before this code matures and a code is set. Possible Causes:
Wiring harness fault
5v supply circuit open or shorted to ground
Tone wheel/pulse ring is damaged or corroded
CMP Sensor has failed
CMP Sensor signal circuit is open, shorted to ground or battery voltage or 5v supply
CMP Sensor ground circuit is open
PCM has failed
Trouble Code: P0340 No Camshaft Position Sensor Circuit Failure Trouble
Code Conditions:Engine cranking or running, system voltage over 10v.
The PCM detected CKP pulses without detecting any CMP Sensor pulses for
5 seconds or 2.5 engine revolutions. Possible Causes:
CMP Sensor connector is damaged, open or it is shorted
CMP Sensor signal circuit is open or shorted to ground or to battery voltage or 5v supply circuit
CMP Sensor 5v supply circuit is open or shorted to ground or to battery voltage
