The thermostat, and radiator are under the hood, not under the dash, you might be sure you have enough anti-freeze, in the radiator and reservoir. if not refill to the proper levels, if it heats up after that, check for leaks, if none exist, you might need water pump, or have a leaky head gasket.
yor car has got the troublesome jatco gearbox. you need to get someone with a code reader to get the fault codes out of the tcm {transmission control module} may be just low fluid level or selector cable jgate problem but more than likely the box has failed and needs replaced/repaired
That is wires in the a common problem there is broken in the trunk, were trunk lid and body get together there is a harness, peel that harness and you will find the broken wires.
Change mechanics, try a specialized guy who only does Volvos.. better than dealer better than some **** shop. It sounds like the gear sensor but a specialized guy will quickly diagnose... for parts, head to an online scrap yard or ebay, kijijijijijijijijij. Best
The exact same set of codes have just come up on my car, the same car and year. Did you solve it? I am thinking cleaning the throttle body first, any help appreciated....
NO: 43-37 DATE: 2-25-2003 MODEL: MY 2001-2002 S60, V70, V70 XC SUBJECT: Shift Quality Issues due to B4 Servo Cover Failure, 2-3 upshift harshness or flare CHASSIS: These chassis breaks are approximate: S60: 062000-152000 V70: 116000-230000 V70 XC: 036000-067100
TRANSMISSION SERIAL NUMBER: The first 3 digits of the serial number on the affected transmissions will be between 01C (March 2001) and 01L (December 2001). DESCRIPTION: In the AW 55-50, brake number four (B4), is only applied in 3rd gear. The B4 is applied by a piston, which is covered by an aluminum cap. This cap has a steel washer crimped to its inside surface, and a rubber cushion that sits between the cover and the washer.
If this washer breaks free from the crimps it will become concaved because of the B4 piston return spring pressure. This loose washer can cause:
-
" 2-3 upshift flare / slip
-
" Harsh 2-3 upshifts
-
" 3-4 upshift flare / slip
-
" Harsh 4-3 downshifts
Replacing the broken B4 cover with a new one (PN 30651771) will remedy these symptoms.
Seems excessive for just a cable unless the transmission has to be removed and dismantled.
I suggest you check with the dealer for costs and parts availability and the dealer price would typically be the most expensive quote for your guidance.
Then you should ask at least a couple of local transmission specialists who would typically be 30 - 40% cheaper.
get the codes read, get the throttle body update (free from volvo) done, reset service by holding odometer button done and turn on key till lights come on dash and what approx 5 second release and turn off key ,you may need to do it again until it works
