I need to replace the ignition cylinder in my above stated truck. Before anyone goes talking about sticking paperclips in holes in the underbelly of the column, there are none, nor on the sides of the cylinder for that matter. At this point I have removed the column shrouds (upper and lower) and have observed no access to the locking pin. Please help!!
Hi..
On 1993 Ford ranger to remove the ignition lock cylinder switch
You need to remove the Steering wheel.
Remove trim shrounds.
Set ignition switch to Run position.
If your vehicle is A/T trans. put the selector lever in Park.
You will see retaining pin. Push retaining pin inward and pull out the lock cylinder.
Unplug wire from lock cylinder.
To install reverse remove procedure.
NOTE'' If you don't have the key or the cylinder is locked.
Instead of push the retaining pin you will need to Drill with a
1/8 in ( 3.17mm) Bit to drill out the retaining pin.
Be careful DO NOT drill more than 1/2 in deep.
After you need a chisel to break away the cylinder cap.
You need a 3/8in (9.52mm) bit to Drill in center of the cylinder.
Drill aprox. 1 3/4 in( 44mm) Deep.
REmove metal shavings. And remove the cylinder.
Clean and lubricate the gear inside. and install the new cylinder.
OK............I hope this information work for you.
Thank's for use fixya.
Most but not all new ignition cylinders come with detailed instructions and pictures to aid in this. I think you are correct, there are no holes on a model that new, but there should be a release at a certain key turn point with the key in the ignition. Goto any major parts store and ask to see the instructions that come with it first, most will allow this (they want to make money and sell you the part)
