Transmission will go into a limp mode ( third gear only) when the computer sees and overtemp condition. Need to have the fluid checked and codes pulled. Overtemp usually means trouble in these units.

The transmission is slipping. Problem could be as simple as the transmission being low on fluid. Check this first. If that's not the problem, it should be taken to a shop for service.

Brake Light. Make sure you are not driving with hand brake on. Check brake-fluid level. Top off brake fluid if low and make appointment to check brakes. Driving with brake light can be dangerous; deal with this soon. Call tow truck or drive carefully and slowly to shop.
ABS (antilock brake system) Light. Indicates either low brake-fluid level, stuck brake caliper or faulty ABS. Check brake fluid and make appointment to get brakes checked. Call tow truck or drive carefully and slowly to shop.
Oil Light. Either engine is very low on oil or there is no oil pressure. Pull over and turn off engine immediately. Check oil level and add oil if low. Turn engine back on to see if light has gone off. If oil light is still on, bad oil pump (no oil pressure) is likely. Call tow truck.
Check Engine Light. Car's computer senses engine problem. Difference in performance may not be noticeable, but make appointment to have car diagnosed. This usually cost around $65-$75 to do. OK to drive. If problem is serious, computer may switch to limp-home (low-power) mode and you won't have option of waiting to bring car into shop.
Air Bag Light. Get air bags checked. Problem could prevent them from activating in accident. OK to drive, but not safe in accident.
Battery Charge Light. Alternator is not charging. OK to drive, but turn off any unneeded electrical devices (radio, heater, defroster) and avoid starting engine more than necessary. Bring car into shop soon to avoid getting stranded. When alternator is not charging, battery loses charge and car stops working.
Emissions Lights (O2 sensor, EGR, check emissions). Depending on car model, these lights may indicate problem with emissions sensor or may light up at certain mileage, usually 60,000 miles (100,000 km). Get sensors checked. OK to drive. If problem exists, car might get poor gas mileage.

I have 1996 nissan sentra ex saloon philippines. When I am driving in first gear up to 3rd gear the engine dies during driving and acts as if needs gas then the check oil light comes out. What can I do...

You should check the oil level and make sure you have enough oil in. If the level is too low the engine may not even start. If you have enough oil then there's a problem in the oil circuit (clogged filter, faulty pump are the most common culprits in such case).

Everytime we stop at light the oil light comes on then turns off as soon as gas pedal is pressed

The oil lights come on because there isn't enough oil pressure in the engine... When you come to a red light, the engine is at idle in a lower rpm and there isn't enought oil in your engine to cycle, thus creating low pressure, and the indicator comes on, however when you rev your engine or press the gas pedal, the remaining oil that you have in your engine is being cylce because of higher rpm, thus bypassing the oil sensor. Solution to this, is you need to add oil to the apropriate oil level AS SOON AS POSSIBLE or get a oil change before driving this car any longer as major mechanical issue may occur if you do not get this taken care of. You can buy a quart of oil at walmart or your local gas station and add it and get you by until you get it to the gas station. You may want to constantly keep a eye on the oil level as maybe your engine is burning oil, in order to avoid engine break down.

sounds like the head or head gasket is blown. your cylinders may be getting coolant in them which will not only cause the motor to lockup, but also cause bent rods and valves. check your oil dipstick and transmission dipstick to see if it looks like water or coolant is presant, also check the coolant to see if it smells like gas or has any kind of oil in it, if so, your head is likely blown.
