Question about Saturn Ion

1 Answer

I have a 2003 Saturn I just purchased off someone and not sure why my car wouldn't start for me the other day. It started and stalled right away. Then I waited 10-15 minutes and tried again and unlocked the doors and then it started this time and stayed on. Is this a defect or is this some kinda secrity lock? I am not sure what to do about this but it scares me to be stranded somewhere. Thanks for your help in advance.

Saturns are normally very dependable vehicles.if it was cold out when you started it and it died, sometimes cars do that.they take to much gas and flood themselves out especially when it's cold. your car should start without you pressing on the gas pedal at all because it's fuel injected.i don't know of a security issue with a saturn.if you are concerned about being stranded check local auto clubs that provide towing, unlock services, out of gas services, flat tire changes. AAA is a good service to be a member of. thank you for choosing fixya.com

2003 Saturn Vue with a identity anti theft system. Replaced my battery a few months ago. Couple weeks ago noticed a little difficulty starting up. Last week wouldn't start just clicking noise. Jumped...

Anti-theft system has nothing to do with it . Battery cables , maybe , Park neutral safety switch possibly ! With anti-theft system problem you wouldn't a click or anything , that is if the anti-theft disables fuel or the starter . Plus the SECURITY light would be on if it were a anti-theft system problem . Your best bet , take it to a qualified repair shop that knows how to do starter circuit testing >
Starter Voltage Drop
How to voltage drop test starter motor circuit

And what's this identity anti theft system ? No such thing ! The vehicle has a content theft an vehicle theft deterrent system !
This system disables fuel not cranking of the engine. The VCM/PCM will not disable the fuel due to any BCM message for the remainder of the ignition cycle.
If the VCM/PCM does not receive the same password from the BCM as the last learned one, the vehicle will start and then stalls due to the Fuel Lockout.

Hi Wlove, have the vehicle diagnostically scanned and I'm fairly sure it will record a defect with the temperature sensor. Have that relpaced and your problems should be over. Regards John

On one of the occasions when it won't start back up, someone will need to figure out if you have lost spark to the plugs or fuel to the injectors to be able to troubleshoot the problem.

Our 2003 Saturn L200 turns over, but won't start...like it's not getting gas. This just started happening and only after we've already driven it that day. The first time it happened was...

Check fuel pressure at the injector rail. If good, suspect crankshaft position sensor--when it fails to start, check for sparks by pulling an ignition wire off the coils and holding it close to the coil with an insulated tool while someone cranks the engine. If no sparks, replace the sensor.

2006 Saturn ION2 won't start. Happens every few

This is a very common problem with the Saturn. It's a bad ignition switch. You need to replace it.

Google on common saturn problems and you'll see that hundred of Saturn owners have had this very problem.

It's really amusing how each dealer prances around it and doesn't tell their customers that it's a common problem. If you bring it to them they will know right away what the problem is but they may pretend not to know right away...EVERY Saturn dealer has fixed this on dozens and dozens of their vehicles...
