Air Bag light will not go off after the car is started. The car has never been in a accident. I am due for a state inspection and this will be the third time I have been forced back to the dealership for repairs. Do you have any ideas of how I can fix this problem. Last year the modules were fixed.
Thanks
Hi,
Considering the various possibilities and complexity of the system, it may be to your advantage to seek the services of your dealer and/or a qualified professional. This and the added fact that "state inspection" would not pass your vehicle without it.
Alternately, you may want to try this site specializing airbags for DIYers (do-it-yourself) and can provide pictorial diagnosis/elimination of probable defective components from clocksprings to modules including seatbelts. Incidentally they have a "Try it free" option with limited functionality. Of course, pls check for your particular year and model.
Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.
Good luck and kind regards.
Thank you for using FixYa.
On occasion, the airbag light will come on while driving. This indicates that a fault in the system is occuring. As long as the light remains "on", the system is inactive and will not deploy any devices during a collision. It will remain that way until the fault is corrected. There are multiple components in the system. Many vehicles now include the following:
front airbag modules
clockspring
seat airbags
curtain airbags
control units
sensors
seat belt pretensioners
occupant classification systems
If a fault occurs in any of these components, the wiring betweenany of them, or if the power circuit (or ground circuit) is interrupted, a fault code will be set and the airbag light will illuminate. If the airbag light circuit itself is damaged or becomes inoperative, some vehicles implement a tone warning system to indicate such a fault. The manufacturers take airbag fault codes and the SRS system itself very seriously. When the light or tone indicates a problem, it should be diagnosed and corrected to insure safe operation of the vehicle.
Hope that helps.....
Hi,
The warning lights will
come on if the battery is disconnected and
reconnected. To "reset" the light, a special
scanner is required. An independent auto
service center can do this for you.
Please don't forget to rate or accept the solution.
Goodluck..
If you have replaced impact sensor, make sure the connectors are secured by the lock tabs. They have to be connected securely.
When the airbag light comes on, it is indicative of a fault in the system. They do not reset by unplugging the battery or by multiple key cycles. The system is monitored constantly by the SRS control unit and the light will only go out when the fault is corrected. You can find out the problem with a simple scan by the dealer or anyone else with an airbag scanner (not a check engine scan tool like Auto Zone has). Once you know the codes and cause, you can decide if you want to fix it. As long as the light is on, the system is down and will not deploy even if you are in an accident.

Thank you for your comment however, the battery has not been disconnected. Let me restate the problem. When I start the car the air bag light will go on and then goes off. The car is in park. This will happen again when I am backing out of my garage. When I put the car in drive the air bag light will come on and does not go off. This problem has been extremely frustrating since when I take it to the dealership for a repair its costing me $500 plus per visit. Do you have any additional thoughts about what could be causing this to continually to occur? Thank you.
