Brake Lights My brake lights stay on after the vehicle is turned off. I can get them to do off after restarting, going backwards then forwards then back then forward. Today it took about seven time before the lights finally stayed off.

Today my car would barely turn over and then I noticed that my brake lights won't go off. I'm looking for an answer.

2003 Lincoln Town Car - won't go out of park. I haven't been able to find the fuse for that relay. Also the A/C and clock aren't working.

Are you on any kind of incline that is putting pressure on the transmission? It does not take much of an incline to do this. Have someone help you by rocking the vehicle back and forth with the keys in the ignition but the engine OFF and foot off the brake and parking brake OFF. When it is rocking (forward and backward, not side to side) then try to take it out of park. To help you with this problem in the future (if this is the cause), put the parking brake on first THEN put the vehicle in Park.

Brake lights backwards

The brake light switch is on the top of the brake pedal. Power goes from the switch into the turn signal switch, then to the rear lights.
I would check the brake light switch first.

Brake lights stay on

The most probable cause is a sticking brake light switch. The brake light is activated by a small switch mounted under the driver's side, up near the leg of the brake pedal. That switch is spring backed so that when you depress the pedal the shaft of the switch is let forward and turns on the brake light. That switch sometimes comes loose or half cocked in the housing and stays activated all the time until you let the brake pedal loose and the leg of the pedal depresses the switch shaft just enough to turn off the brake light. The solution is to replace the switch, at about 15 bucks at your Advance Store. or 10 bucks plus shipping on the internet. You can check when you leave the vehicle to see if the brake lights are still on. Mind you, this does not happen all the time as sometimes it is cured by the action of the brake pedal knocking the shaft back in line

It wont shift into any gear, the cables seem to be o k

Well youll need a second person to help on this one. One person to press brake pedal and some one to make sure brake lights a working.
Most vehicle have a shift lock on them that works with brake so that when you shift the car into gear it senses that the brake is on so it wont just jump forward or backward for safety. Id start with checking that it has brake lights then next would be fuses.

Brake lights will not turn off on my 94 Nissan Altima

Your problem should be that the rubber stops that are mounted at the top of your break pedal came out or are worn down too much to press the buttons all the way in.
What they do is push the button that switches off your break lights when the break pedal is released (yes, kind of backwards way to design it, i know). That's why your lights stay on even when your car is off. I had to go to the junkyard to find replacements for mine and they are a ***** to replace.
They are chipped away easily by the break switches when your car shakes badly over a prolonged period of time. Like driving a couple of weeks on a bad front tire.

Brake lamp

Try adjusting your brake light stop switch..it is located on the upper side of the break pedal...Now you also may just need to replace it, if adjusting it dint work...All you have to do is untighten the screw, and unplug it, and mve it backwards or forward a little...make sure you plug it back up, to test if it is working correctly, and then once you get it working correctly, go ahead an tighten back down the screw...Goodluck...

Brake lights stay on when my head lights are turned on? 1998 vwgl

Check the tail light bulbs, One may be shorted & feeding voltage to brake lights. Check sockets & wiring. Yes, the brake light switch is above the foot brake.
