I get a clunking noise from the front of my truck when I cold start it and only for a few min as is warms up then it goes away. This started in cold weather 35-60F. I have a chevy silverado 2001 1500 4.8L. only mods I made before the noise was a ram air intake, cat back flowmaster ehaust and put synthetic blend 5w-30 motor oil rather then the basic 10w-30 the used to be in there. The noise didn't start right after all these things about 2-3 weeks later it did. Not sure where the noise is coming from for sure and I cant hear it that well outside the truck while it running with the exhaust.

This engine has forged pistons whitch expand more than hyper-u-tec-tic pistons when heated . this is normal for this engine . my brother has a chevy silverado 2001 1500 4.8Lwith 650,000 kms and he said his made that noise when it was brand new and the dealer said this is normal. the truck still runs like new with lots of power and it still makes that noise before it reaches operating temp then goes away.My brother uses lucas oil treatment and it helps quiet the knock a little when cold.

Pound ticking noise when my 99 durango starts goes away after the engine warms up

The ticking noise could be a faulty hydrulic valve lifter. When last was the oil & filter changed, it coul be that the oil is thick and not going through to the lifters and when it warms up the oil is thin. It could be that the engine is need of an overhaul as 148.000 miles is 238.182 Kilometers and that is a hi milage.

On a cold start my car has a ticking noise. I've got a Chrysler neon 2000 Le

If it goes away after the engine warms up it is likely loose pistons or worn piston skits. As long as it goes away after the engine is warm it won't hurt anything. It is common on engines with some age on them. When the engine get hot the pistons expand and the noise usually goes away.

Experiencing a "ticking" "knocking" type noise when 1st starting the car in colder weather that goes away once the blazer warms up , any help ?? I was told it could be the exhaust manifold , or piston...

it may need a lifter or valve adjustment when cold they will tick or knock depending on how loose or worn out then when it warms up they swell with heast and noise stops. after adjusting or replacing it will stop making noise

'96 VW Golf GL with 2.0 motor. Cold start knock

It sounds like the hydraulic lifters are bleeding down after sitting for a while... there are ball checks which are supposed to prevent this... Try using a good engine flush (a product that frees sticky lifters) and replace the oil with a good synthetic... Hope this helps...;-)
