Best type is the 180 rated thermostat. best to use the the A/CDelco, Stant, or Gates thermostat. Make sure that if you do buy the aftermarket thermostat, it has the gasket with it like the GM OEM thermostat.
Your going to have to remove
the air intake tube & throttle body and exhaust cross over heat shield, then the two bolts hold the housing in
place. Remove the top bolt and slid the housing out after you have disconnected the hose. When reinstalling be sure
the thermostat is seated or you will break the housing.
Thank you for using fixya and good luck
The stant super stat engine coolant thermostat. it opens at 195 degrees fahrenheit. most vehicles use a 195 degree thermostat. but the superstat is best. i have been using them for years and they seem to last longer. have a good day !!

You will have a rubber gasket on the 2002 venture and not a gasket. I have had my Venture since 2002 and I do not use sealant since the rubber gasket seals the fluid in the thermostat housing. Most of the other directions noted are right except that you only have to take out the upper themostat housing bolt and leave the other bolt in the intake housing. The thermostat housing has a slot to allow you to remove it straight up if you have removed all items that are in the way.
