Hi Robert!
When bleeding the fronts and the pedal does not go down all the way, stand on the pedal HARD and see if it won't go down then...
The proper sequence is to bleed fronts FIRST... if you had done this, you probably could have avoided this problem... but no worry, it is just a nuisance!
If you still have a problem after trying this, you might have a master cylinder problem... the seals to the fronts might be leaking, not able to build pressure...
So try this and let me know how it goes, and DON't FORGET: Your rating is my ONLY compensation for helping you!
Thanks!

Robert-
Let me kick this around a little bit, see if I can find anything unusual about Pathfinder brakes, and I'll get back with you soon. Sounds kinda strange, though!
Thanks!

Robert-
I did some research and learned that '98 Pathfinders had a problem with the front calipers... seems that some had metal pistons, which are subject to rusting and locking up and/or leaking, and some had plastic pistons that tend to wear and lock ... Are you getting any action out of the fronts?
Also check the caliper slides that allow the caliper to float from side to side... these tend to bind up with age due to wear and trash accumulation. If the calipers can't move easily side to side, they tend to ride a pad against one side of the rotor, which results in brake drag, pulling to a side, and excessive brake wear. If the calipers are too offset one way or another and / or are binding or locked up, it can cause bleeding / no pedal problems.
And make sure not to let fluid levels get too low in the Master Cylinder reservoir... a slip up there can put you back at the starting line... I'm sure you are bleeding / priming the M/C front and back piston separately prior to installing it, aren't you?
Robert, sounds like you've been messing with these brakes for some time now, and I imagine you are getting plenty frustrated... What should have been a fairly straight forward job has started taking on nightmarish aspects. But keep the faith and your patience (as much as possible!), and we'll find a solution... Sure wish I was there with you, though... You have to be my eyes, ears, and hands for me - and these kind of problems require detailed inspection and checking.
Sorry for the delay, but I just got home from a cross-country trip yesterday afternoon, and I've had a lot of things to take care of... but I kept mulling over your problem in my mind!
Thanks, and let me know if any of this info helps with the problem... If not, we'll dig deeper!
