It depends on with a filter or not. 6 Quarts with a new filter, 5 without.
GM says that if temperatures will stay above 0 Fahrenheit before the next
oil change, you can use 10W-30. If its going to be really cold they recommend 5W-30 to improve oiling on extremely cold morning start-ups.
This is true for all the engine options that year except the 6.6L. For
that they say to use 15W-40.
im pretty sure this model holds 4 & 1/2 quarts, although, i would put 4 quarts in it for starters and check the level, i recommend castrol 10w 30 even though it calls for 5w 30, 10w wont hurt it especially in a warmer climate
Cheapest synthetic is better than the most expensive standard oil. Walmart offer full synthetic, 5-quart containers of 5W and 10W-30 oil for about 17 bucks.
Either of those weights will serve you well - for 6,000 miles or so.
If you want to run for 10,000 miles, then a Mobile 1 full synthetic for a bit over double the price will serve well.
Suggest that you NEVER allow someone to sell you oil by the quart. The mark up is silly.
Suggest that 4 quart containers are NOT for cars... No car takes 4 quarts.
Suggest that 5 quart containers are good for buying and discarding oil - also cheaper. Check your local Walmart... then check ANY other retailer. Let us know if you can beat the price and container size advantage offered by Walmart.
